Rimuru's POV

This morning I had an important matter to discuss, as I could not always personally be with Aoki; she needed a caretaker. That was in itself troublesome, because while I could trust Hinata with Aoki for an hour or two... I could not trust the witch with my child for a whole day.

I needed someone trustworthy and accountable. Someone who I named, preferably. Also to avoid Aoki naming them, since if Aoki named someone, it would give her undue control over them.

Plus, my subordinates needed a break. So having an argument about who gets to be Aoki's caretaker was good enough as a break, since they'd never actually take a real break. I'd had to actually drag some of them here for this conversation, because they were too invested in work.

Oddly enough though, Geld, the one normally lost in his work completely, actually came the moment I said what the topic was. He was on the other side of the country too, so I expected him to be the most reluctant.

"Mine is the best!"

"No it isn't, mine is taller so it is superior!"

"Well, I'm taller than you, so that means-!"

"Clearly, mine is the best, and the tallest." Testarossa loomed over the other two demonesses, being the tallest herself. She was trying to show that physically.

I had been eating vanilla wafers this whole time, just enjoying the show. Of course the demonesses would argue over this, especially since all of them at one point named subordinates specifically for the purpose of serving as the best maids in the palace. That, and they always had argued over everything, and I mean everything. At this point, I'd all but given up on stopping this sort of thing from starting.

"I think I should be the one to pick the correct maid to serve the princess! Benimaru once had a young ogre girl from outside the village become a palace maid! Obviously she is the best!" I had to cancel Shion's chef skill, otherwise she was going to use it to make that maid the best. Changing people's very being without their consent is a no-no.

I sighed, the argument was starting to get a bit too serious.

Well, at least that was what I was thinking, when someone slammed their hands down on the table.

"Kokobu," was all Geld said.

"Your adoptive daughter?"

Geld nodded, "She was recently hired as a maid in the palace after I insisted she find safer work." I didn't think working with my daughter would be much safer than construction, but if he thought so I'd let him finish. "She is well equipped to deal with a child, and is a very responsible woman. Kokobu worked under me for over a decade, and has managed a number of construction projects on her own. She is a great leader and incredibly skilled at a number of household roles. You may ask any of those who worked under her during her time as a foreman."

I kinda forgot she had worked in construction to be honest. Although, yeah. She had a lot of experience in construction. Supposedly, she had become Geld's direct subordinate at the age of twenty, or at least physical age of twenty. Her naming kind of messed with her aging a bit.

From what I knew, she got injured pretty badly during a project on the other side of the country, so Geld had her retire from construction, and instead get a job at the palace.

It was a pretty big downgrade not just in salary, but also prestige. Being a foreman for the national construction administration means she used to report to Geld directly, and only Geld.
