The fluorescent lights buzz softly in the empty studio, casting a sterile, uninviting glow.
The mirror in front of me reflects my every move, but I hardly pay attention to it.
My legs are sore from hours of rehearsal, the muscles burning with exhaustion, but there’s no time to stop.
Not now.
Not when I’m so close to being good enough.
The air in the room is thick, and the silence is suffocating, only broken by the sound of my sneakers slapping against the polished floor as I move through the dance routine again, over and over.
The rhythm flows like a pulse beneath my skin. One step, two steps, three. I adjust my hair for the thousandth time, smoothing it back as if it might help me focus.
My reflection stares back at me, eyes wide and unblinking, but it’s not my own face I see.
I don’t really see me anymore.
I’m doing this for them. For the fans. For everyone who will one day see me on stage, shining like a star. And in the back of my mind, I’m doing it for him too.
