Timing was a funny thing. A second could change everything.

For instance, Natasha Howard, or Tasha as her friends called her, failed her driving test because she went at a junction when she should've stopped. That one second in which she made the decision to go, created an outcome where her parents had to pay for more lessons and another test. But that second wasn't lethal, all turned out right in the end as Tasha passed second time around. But it just goes to show how even a second can make a difference. And this day was no different.

"We're gonna be late!" Lucy Howard yelled at her younger sister.

Natasha rolled her eyes as she pulled on a heel in her room. Her mom and dad had only just gotten back from dinner and they were still doing things around the house before they needed to go to the mixer her sister had planned.

The youngest Howard girl was a planner - and by gosh did people know it. She was already on the student council in her freshman year whilst Tasha was, in a nice way, very relaxed about school. She didn't join any team that wasn't sport related - she was happy being a cheerleader - and would rather be caught dead than on the student council. Dyslexia had an impact on her approach, whilst both Lucy and Jackie got straight A's, Tash struggled to get by with some C's.

The dyslexia mainly affected her reading, sometimes her spelling and Lucy would have great fun teasing her about it. She only spelt 'prosecuted' as 'prositituted' one time for heavens sake! But it was all in good nature, and Tash couldn't help but quip back at her older sister.

"Chill out, Luce," the 16 year old rolled her eyes coming down the stairs, dressed in a navy blue halter neck dress that went down to her knees. "You're not supposed to whine when you graduate."

Lucy rolled her eyes as her sister stopped in front of the mirror and pushed her hair around, going for a put together mess. She checked her watch and groaned, "we're already late, I'm gonna send Jackie a text."

Tasha rolled her eyes as she put in some silver earrings. Her dad came round the corner fixing his tie and nudged his daughter, "keep rolling those eyes and they'll get stuck there."

Tasha scoffed facing her dad who shrugged on his jacket, crossing her arms and popping a hip she gave him every bit of laid back sass he expected, "do you have any other lines? Your jokes are getting old." With a smirk she reached forward to touch his salt and pepper hair, "maybe a bit like you."

Lucy ignored her sister and father and sent the youngest Howard a text.

Mom and dad are ready. Tash is just taking her time.

On our way soon. See you at the mixer!

Her dad gasped in outrage, "I pay for your education and this is what I get in return? Mockery? Why you little –"
