techno barely toes the ball back in dream's direction, knowing full well that they're getting a bit carried away with how much force they are putting into their kicks.
their final game is coming up next week and, although it's pointless to practice without their whole team, dream and techno still enjoy pretending that their little passes are going to help them improve their skills.
dream is their team captain, so he's pretty obviously the best player they have. their little school team isn't legitimate enough to label it, but techno is the unspoken second-in-command. he isn't the second-best player, not by a long shot, but dream picked him as backup and no one dared to argue knowing how close the best friends are.
they come as a pair, basically, and no one is willing to argue with that. no one even wants to argue, because their friendship is too precious. it's probably expected that techno's other-half would be his twin brother, but it's hard for them to be close nowadays considering how different they have become and how distant wilbur is.
right now, techno and dream are passing their football back and forth in the school carpark, waiting to be picked up. they stayed late after classes for their team football practice, and then even later after that to go and take out stupid movies from the school library. their only options are educational films, but there are always at least two copies of each DVD so it means they can both take the same one, watch it over the weekend, and then talk about it in form on monday.
it's a stupid tradition, admittedly, but they started in year 7 and they're in year 10 now, so it's too late to give up, even if they have watched just about everything there at least three times. at this point, they should just netflix party or screen share amazon prime over discord, but that takes away half the fun of their little tradition.
the rain is spitting down on them. it's not too heavy, but it's winter in england so the cold air biting at their skin makes the downpour seem endlessly worse. techno used to love the rain but lots of his nicer memories of the weather have turned sour since his mum died. the pinkette has always been adamant about keeping a positive mindset, and he'd like to say he does a good job of it, but it can be hard when everything around you feels like it's burning down.
it's calm though, because he has dream. dream has been an optimist since they met in primary school and techno is sure that it is the blond who inspired that same mindset in him.
techno stops the ball under his foot at the sound of a car entering the gravel carpark, crunching over the wet stone and mud. he turns back, looking over at the red toyota as it nears them.
he smiles when dream's mum waves through the front windshield, waving back and distantly paying attention to the sound of dream walking back over to his side.
cara rolls the passenger's side window down as she pulls up beside them, even though dream immediately steps over to pull open the door and climb in. she's not in a parking space as she stops but even most of the staff have gone now, only a few stray cars being littered across the large carpark.
