Chapter Ten

Adelina woke up early, the soft light of morning streaming through the curtains. She felt Steven's arm draped around her, his steady breathing in rhythm with the peaceful quiet of the house. As much as she loved lying in his embrace, today was special-her annual "Mother and Daughter Day" with Susannah, a cherished summer tradition that they never missed. Gently, she slipped out from under Steven's arm, trying not to wake him as she slid out of bed. He stirred slightly but settled back into sleep.

Once free, Adelina headed to the bathroom, her heart light with excitement. She brushed her teeth, washed her face, and began getting ready for the day. Today, she and her mom had decided to match, something they hadn't done since she was a little girl. She slipped into her outfit: short, light blue overalls with a pastel yellow tube top underneath. She tied her hair into playful pigtails, securing each one with a light yellow bow, and completed the look with her favorite white sneakers. Checking her reflection, Adelina smiled, feeling both nostalgic and excited for what the day would bring.

When she made her way downstairs, she found Susannah already waiting in the kitchen, a warm smile on her face. Susannah was dressed in long, light blue jeans, a light yellow shirt, and white sneakers, matching perfectly with her daughter. The sight of them together, in their coordinated outfits, made Adelina laugh with joy.
