31st of July 2022. The day my primary best friend achieved all of her dreams. From asking what her name is to this moment when the whole of England knows her for her back heel goal in the semi-finals.
"NIAMH, LOOK AT HER" I said in my head. Thanks to her, I have pitch access so I can meet all of her teammates who helped her get to the level she always dreamed of. Oh my fucking god I can't believe it.
~On the pitch~
"NIAMHYYY" She shouted as she saw me. I could not speak as well as I could because of how loud i shouted. We just ran to eachother and i wrapped my arms around her.
"Oh my god, Alessia!" I said in a quiet voice. From kicking a ball on the green by her house in Maidstone to winning a Euros in front of a sold out Wembley. "You've done it!" I barely shouted, many voice cracks in between. Right after I said that, she finally noticed the 23 underneath the England crest and Nike logo.
"Supporting your best mate?" She says in her soft, southern accent. I nudged her, playfully. We kept playfully nudging eachother like we were back in primary school, getting told of 24/7 but this time was by her best friend, Ella Toone.
"Niamh, that's my job!" Says a very familiar, northern accent. Any Lioness fan would now exactly who it was from a mile away.
"Tooney! That goal was amazing!" I compliment. Ella hugged me as tight as she could and ran back to the celebrations. Lessi took my arm and dragged me along the famous pitch. At one point, I thought I was going to fall over in front of thousands.
The group of champions ran around in a circle as I stood behind. I watched all the Lionesses run as I laughed. They were all staring at the floor but as one specific one went past, me and her made eye contact. I didn't need to ask Alessia who it was, which I had to do to most of them, I knew exactly who it was.
