Clark, a man who has made his living as a comedian at his local bars, decided that he wanted to spread his jokes and hopefully make a bigger name for himself. He decided to take this opportunity as a vacation, and did the classic spin the globe and see where your finger lands game, only to find his finger sitting on top of Scotland. He decided he must leave right away and waste no time, so he booked a flight and practiced some of his classic lovable jokes on the way there. You would have thought after the way the last vacation ended he would have steered clear but Clark was as determined as ever to make a name for himself.
Clark finally arrives in Scotland after what seems like forever and the first thing he wants to do is get a gig. He goes to the most popular pub in town, contrary to belief Clark has never taken a sip of alcohol in his life, he doesn't believe it's necessary to crack jokes, so he leaves it for the other "alcoholics". The moment he steps into the bar he gets deja vu, he makes eye contact with the bartender struts up to her and opens with his one liner that seems to get all the girls "I'm learning about important dates in history. Want to be one of them?" Lucy, at least according to her name tag, is taken aback she has never had anyone try to flirt with her before, most people don't even attempt to talk to her since she is known to be an extremely independent person. He continues to look at her waiting for some form of words either of rejection or intrigue, to which she decides to walk away, take a breath, and maybe come back later. Some people at the bar top had been watching their conversation from the start and had started to giggle or snicker. Clark, not wanting to consider Lucy a lost cause, decided he'd go mingle with some of the other pub guests. He meets a few people, none that interests him, until he ends up talking to another comedian named Harry. They both sit at a high table and tell each other funny stories from their gigs. Clark is seriously liking Harry's energy and decides they must show together at least once before he goes back home. "Hey, I know we don't know each other that well, but I feel like it'd be a great deal of fun to do a gig together." Harry, now exceedingly giddy, replies "I think that's a totally rad idea, let's do it. How about the same place tomorrow?" "Sounds perfect," Clark replies extremely pleased
With this new-found luck Clark decides to test his luck with Lucy again. He settles on telling her "Hey, I know we got off on the wrong foot but I just have to say you caught my eye the moment I walked in." Lucy, still in shock, replies "I'm sorry, I just am not used to this attention and you-well-not to judge a book by its cover, but yours is painted like a red flag." Clark begins to get a wee bit annoyed and says "Listen, I'm not saying we have to marry each other, we just met, but at least give me a shot." She looks at him with a questionable face. "Please, just one chance. How about a date? Tomorrow? I'll meet wherever you want" he says, holding on to the last bit of hope he has. She must have been intrigued in some type of way because the next words out of her mouth shocked him so hard he had to have her repeat them.
"Sure" Lucy hesitantly replies
"Wait, what?"
" I said sure, meet me here tomorrow around noon."
Clark was thrilled this had given him a newfound high and he was ecstatic. "You are going to have the greatest time of your life, you won't regret it" Clark tells her rushing out the door to make sure he has the perfect outfit.
After he finds an outfit that is sure to impress he starts his nightly routine. Which includes brushing his teeth, flossing, and using mouthwash, then combing his hair, changing into pj's, and finally playing some tunes to fall asleep to. His hotel for the vacation had this distinct, unpleasant smell. The blue patterned wallpaper is clearly old and torn, and coming off piece by piece. Finally the bed, he has never heard anything that creaks so exceedingly in his life, the mattress is no longer matressing, the pillows are flat beyond fluffing, and the sheets and comforters are visibly dirty. Although considering his budget and the other hotels he could be in, he's going to consider a win a win, even if it's an exceptionally small one.
When he wakes up the next morning he does his morning routine which is basically his night routine just flipped. He'll change out of his pj's, comb his hair, and then brush his teeth using all the work, including brushing, flossing, and mouthwash. He is so excited, he can't wait. He's decided he'll go early to make an extremely superb impression, since he has nothing else to do. Clark arrives and his mouth drops in horror. There's police tape wrapped around the building and a bulky body bag being carried away. As soon as he sees the body bag he recalls a past moment from a few years ago. It was 3 years ago, Clark was just starting his comedy gigs and he was on vacation. He had found about 5 local bars that he wanted to try to book some gigs in, and he had already hit up three out of the five. When going to the fourth he saw the place surrounded and about three body bags being taken out of the building. He was snapped back to reality by a police officer. "Hey, I'm sorry but this place is closed for now" the police officer says. Clark, still in shock, replies "Wait, why, what happened? How did it happen? I was just here last night." "I'm not allowed to answer any questions at this time. We still need more information, but for now this is an active crime scene and it can't be tampered with" replies the officer. After realizing this is all the police officer will say on the matter he starts to walk away until he is caught off guard. Lucy had screamed his name, while trying to catch up to him.
"Hey, Clark, wait up!" She says
"Hey" "Are we still on for the date?" Clark replies
"I mean if you're still interested. Are you sure you haven't changed your mind?"
"Never, How do you feel about walking"
"I guess, that's fine as long as you're fine with the fact that I positively can't walk in a straight line." she says giggling
"I think I'll survive"
They continue to walk all the way there, spending their time walking and learning about each other.
Clark felt as if their date had gone by so fast, you know the saying of time flies when you're having fun, that's how his date felt. She had walked him to one of the more classier restaurants in Scotland. They had beautiful carved chairs, glossed wooden tables, and the prettiest chandeliers he had ever seen above each table. He can't even recall the topics they talked about, but he knows that he would 1,000% be interested in another date, that is if she'll have him.
Clark decided to look into the bar crime scene and ask around, people continued to mix up who the victim was but a large number of people were convinced it was Harry. This made Clark's stomach drop, Harry was one of the only friends he had made here in Scotland. Clark had never felt this type of pain before, the pit that was in his stomach he just couldn't bear it. That night when he went to bed he thought about all the people they could have had rolling on the ground laughing, but now the only one laughing is Harry from beyond.
A couple weeks have passed since Clark and Lucy's date. Since then they have hung out a fair amount, especially since the Pub that Lucy works at was still being investigated. Today specifically they had planned to stay inside watching movies and playing games. They had started another hand of Uno, Clark was trying his best to let Lucy win discreetly. Suddenly the door was busted down, Clark had just started to pick up a card when he heard "Police, Lucy Whippersnapper you are under arrest for the murder of Harry Huston." "You have the right to remain silent..." Clark started to hear muffled words, his head felt like it was spinning, he couldn't believe what he had heard. He has been hanging out with a murderer for weeks, playing games with her, inviting her to his home, feeding her, making her laugh, this was just crazy. He didn't know what to believe anymore, but he had soon been pulled out of his train of thought when Lucy called out to him. She calls like her life depends on it, in a manipulated type of tone, begging him to believe her. "Clark, Clark, I swear I didn't do it. I would never. You know me, I'm not capable. Come on, believe me. PLEASE, PLEASE CLARK! Don't let them do this. Don't let them take me away!" With this Clark goes undoubtedly feral, like a monkey who has just been released from prison. Given he didn't actually know Harry, but the thought that the only friends he had made were either dead or a murderer left him a mad man. "Why? Why would you do this Lucy?" Clark asks, almost begging. He continues "And please don't lie to me, let's not waste either of our time." She proceeds to pout, not wanting to give in but realizing the act is up and she's already been caught. "I'm sorry, I know you guys hit it off, and I was just jealous. I also knew that you had asked me on a date the same day you were gonna do an act with him, and I should be the higher priority. Nobody has ever given me the attention you have, you've been the first guy to notice me and I wanted you to be the last, I love you." Lucy wholeheartedly screamed, crying, tears flooding the floor. "You don't love me. You didn't even know me, and even if you had loved me, what makes you think killing one of the only friends I made would be a way to confess your love or even get me to feel the same." Clark replies heart broken. With this he gives up and slams the door, this will be the last vacation he ever takes, for sure.
