Chapter Two
My alarm went off way too early the next morning. I growled and fumbled for the snooze button only miss and jam my finger. Mumbling a swear under my breath I stumbled out if bed and straight into the shower.
An hour later I was staring longingly at the place where my combat boots lay secreted away. I was wearing a pair of ankle booties with peach colored skinnies and a gray oversized jumper instead though. My hair was in a fishtail braid down my back and my makeup was very simplistic.
I grabbed my backpack and went down to the kitchen where the wonderful smell of bacon and eggs wafted from. 'Morning honey!' My mother chirped from the stove where she was scooping some food in to a plate that she handed me.
'This smells amazing.' I moaned as I slid not so gracefully into the seat next to my dad. He looked up from his coffee and newspaper. 'Good morning to you too, Taylor.' He teased, stealing a nibble of my eggs.
'Hey, hey, none of that. Mine.' I said sternly before picking up my fork and shoveling my food into my mouth. 'Tay! You look like a pig. More lady like please,' Mom admonished. 'I'm sorry mom, I'm running a little late.' I mumbled. But I did slow my pace.
'Bye guys! I'll see you this evening,' I promised. Pausing to kiss mom cheek and ruffle dad's hair fondly. 'Bye! And stay safe! Love you!' 'You are such stereo-typical parents!' I laughed as a ran out the door to catch the bus. I could hear them laughing as the door slammed shit behind me.
'Girl, there is some serious man candy starting their education in our fine institution today.' My best friend Kylie notified me the moment I walked past her locker.
'Word on the streets is he got kicked out of the boarding school he was at for beating the crap out of some guy. And baby, does he look like the type.' The girl added with a suggestive wiggle of her eyebrows.
'Oh yeah? Is he the same year as us? What's he look like?' I knew I shouldn't be encouraging her behavior, but we never get a new student in our little town.
Why don't you take a little look-see for yourself, he's walking down the hall right now,' Kylie murmured. I looked in the direction she was jerking her head to and practically had to stop myself from gaping.
He was tall, at least 6', and he had gorgeous dark thick hair that was all mussed up in a way that most guys had to try for but that had to be natural for him and the greenest eyes I'd ever seen. He was wearing dark wash jeans that fit him just right, not too tight, not to loose, and a black shirt that clung slightly to the muscles underneath.
Just then he looked up from his schedule and his eyes caught mine. I blushed, and before I could look away I saw something that looked like recognition flicker across his face before it disappeared. But how could that be? I mean, I think I'd remember if I'd met someone like that before.
The bell rang just then, pulling me out of my trance and sending me swerving to my locker to grab my history text book before slipping into class just before my teacher who wasn't even a step behind me.
I ignored his glare and slipped smoothly into my desk only to do a double take on the seat next to me where the school's queen bit-I mean bee Amy was usually seated. The new kid sat there instead, while Amy sat glaring holes into my back from a row behind me.
Mr. Peters looked up from his notes and scanned the room until his eyes came to rest on the pair of us.
'Mr. Walker, I know this is your first day but we do have assigned seating, and your name is not beside Miss Howard, but Miss Andrews.' He said not unkindly to the boy while pointing to the seat where Amy was seated.
'But sir, i was hoping I could sit here? Please?' He asked. His voice with deep and smooth, he added a pleading tone to which the history teacher couldn't deny.
I laughed to myself. my poor teacher had most likely been hoping for a way to separate the two of us girls anyways- we do not get along. She's a stuck up whore who can't live without attention and who thrives on drama.
'I'm Cole.' A low voice from beside me. I turned and smiled at the new boy, 'I'm Taylor.'
'Have I met you before? I swear I've seen you somewhere.' He commented as he leaned down to pull a text book from the bag at his feet, making his arms flex appealingly. 'I don't think so, maybe you saw me at a party or something?' I suggested. I didn't go to them unless Kylie dragged me, but I've been to a few over the years.
'Nah, not my scene. Maybe at a school football game?' 'Nah, not my scene,' I said mimicking him.
He grinned, 'I like you.' I smirked and turned my attention back to the front where Mr. Peters was droning on about Columbus and The New World.
A piece of paper slid into my hand under the table a minute later and I quickly glanced over at Cole. He was looking ahead towards the board but a little smile played on his lips.
I glanced down and read the words, 'I know I've seen you somewhere before, just give it time. While we wait, how about we meet up for lunch?'
I rolled my eyes and wrote back, 'no can do, Buckaroo, I've got plans with my best friend- you can eat with us if you want to, though. We're leaving campus for some real food'.
I slid it into his hands and a second later he nodded at me with a smile. I grinned and nodded back.
When class was over I collected my things and turned to Cole to ask what his schedule looked like, but he was already gone. I shrugged and headed for the door.
By the time my classes before lunch were done I was about ready to faint I was so hungry. Apparently Kylie felt the same way because she was waiting outside the door when my last class before lunch let out.
'If we don't get out of here and get me some food in the next 30 seconds I'm going to slap a bitch.' The girl moaned as I joined her and we headed towards the car. 'Oh wait! I almost forgot, I invited Cole to eat with us if that's okay with you.' 'Cole?' 'Yeah the new kid..' I said slowly dragging it out for her. 'Oh my gosh! Are you serious?!' She squealed, jumping up and down in excitement. How did you get him to agree with that?' 'Calm down, calm down,' I said trying to quite her down a bit before the entire school heard her.
'Well for starters, she didn't drool over me like all the other birds in this school.' A deep voice observed from behind me.
I whirled around and placed a hand over my heart. 'Cole!' I yelped, glaring at him. 'Oops, sorry.' He said innocently, widening his startlingly green eyes and batting his lashes. He not so subtly checked out Kylie after doing so, and all I could do was roll my eyes and grab them both by the hand.
'We're going for food now before I collapse on the ground dead, okay?' I said, not waiting for an answer as I dragged them towards the door.
