The flutter of the pages turning in Connie's book made some part of her heart do the same. She was finally getting to her favorite part of the book. Her interest was spiking.

To be fair, any story takes time to reach its most interesting. That doesn't mean the beginning is any less important.

She was enjoying the beach. That was what Beach City was known for, among other things. Her mom finally agreed to let her have a day out alone in the town, so she was making use of it. Connie simply read away on the beach, mostly ignoring the sounds around her.

Connie's brown puffy hair was blown by the breeze right into her face, leaving only her nose prominently sticking out from the front. She brushed it back, but the only features to see were her dark eyes. She wasn't much to ride home about, but that didn't matter to her.

She didn't have anyone to really judge. She spent her time alone in Beach City, like today. A calm, peaceful day.

Unfortunately, Connie was then reminded of the rumored other things Beach City was known for.

People began yelling in surprise on the beach, catching Connie's attention. To her shock, centipede-like creatures with a bumpy dark green exoskeleton began crawling up and down the beach. The underside of the creatures a light green and slightly translucent with a yellow-green diamond shape in the middle.

They chased people who were having a good time. One of them actually spat out a green glob that melted right through the sand.

Connie considered running for the hills, but as she closed her book, three semi-familiar figures joined the fight.

The first figure had lime-green skin and pale chartreuse yellow hair styled into a tetrahedron shape. A yellow visor covered her face, leading the green in her eyes to seem more yellow. Notably, there was a green gemstone located right on her forehead.

This green person pointed her yellow fingers, which were strangely detached, toward the centipedes. Plasma orbs shot out from them to hit the creatures. They started running away, in the direction of the ocean.

She began sprinting. "Lapis!"

"On it!" Another figure moved in from above, with wings made of water keeping her in the air.

The slimmest member of the trio wore a backless blue halter crop top with an upward-facing navy triangle, which tied into a blue sash ribbon on the back of her shoulders. She also wore a flowing cobalt blue skirt, which was calf-length with a downward-facing navy triangle around the waist.

A gem colored navy blue could be spotted on her back. Strangely, she was barefoot.

This member, Lapis, lifted her hands toward the centipedes reaching the water. She quickly closed her hands. Each of the centipedes got impaled by solidified water.

These two continued this strategy, luring the centipedes to the water, and impaling them. Surprisingly the third member of the group did not join them.

The final member was built bigger than the others, and anyone not a bodybuilder for that matter. Her skin was tangerine colored, with reddish-orange markings on her face and arms. The sleeveless vest she wore only attracted more attention to her muscles.

She had amber eyes and thick, beige-white-colored flowing hair.

This member also had a gemstone on her body, but strangely it was in the place where someone's nose should be.

She was leaping around the beach, taking out centipedes in a single hit each time. Not one could escape before being smashed into the soft sand, and... poofing into thin air.
