"The clock is 08.15 AM, and I am still in my bed which means that I have fifteen minutes to be in Mrs. Lambert's class," I said to Rosalie on the phone. She was already at school, shocking. I looked at the clock again. The pressure got to me now, I had ten minutes to be in class and I was still not dressed. Luckily, I live near the school, so it only takes me five minutes to get there. "Do you think that you'll make it Lia," she asked with her annoying high pitch voice. "Of course I will, when have I not made it to class Rose," I said as I walked out the door with my keys in my mouth. "I need to hang up now, bye, see you in class," I said in a hurry. I walked as fast as I could, as if I was running a marathon. My legs became very clammy on my way to school despite I was wearing a skirt in 25 °C weather.
The air had never been this breathtaking before in the middle of April. Spring days in Paris are really something for itself. The sun was shining, and the flowers were blooming. Maybe these few last weeks of school will go smoother and faster than rest of the year I thought to myself as I was watching the butterflies fly away. Thinking that the butterflies perhaps will fly to their new homes and live a peaceful life where they do not have to wake up early to go to school. Argh! Two minutes in and I could barely move my legs. My breath became heavier and heavier for each step I took, but I was almost there, so there was no point in quitting. "Inhale, exhale, repeat," I mumbled to myself. Finally, I arrived at school. There was not a single soul in the schoolyard to be seen, so I assumed that everyone had gone to class. When I made my way to the classroom, I noticed that my entire class was waiting in the hallway. Something seemed fishy, Mrs. Lambert is never late to class. Rosalie suddenly came up to me and told me that Mrs. Lambert was earlier at the hospital, because her eldest daughter was giving birth to a baby boy.
I couldn't stop smiling out of joy, a newborn baby was put on this earth, today! The baby fever really got to me. "I wonder what she will name him," I said with a big smile on my mouth. Rosalie seemed curious about the baby name as well. "Where is Maya, Brie and Julio," I asked. "They're right, there," she pointed. They were all basically standing behind me without me knowing it. "Surprise," they said in choir. "Oh my god, you look so cute today Lia," said Brie in a very soothing voice. "Thanks Brie," I responded." "I love the flower pattern girl," said Julio in a girly way to mock Brie. "I know you do," I said jokingly. Soon enough my cheeks turned red after all the compliments I received, and I think that they may have noticed. Those thirty seconds felt like a long time, and it became even worse when I noticed that Maya's older brother was looking at me from distance. Brie noticed too, but Maya did not. "Lia, your skirt makes me want to eat a peach right now, I'm craving a peach so bad," she clearly said to make me think of something else.
It was hard to ignore him, to be honest. "Your skirt is a bit long compared to what you usually wear," said Maya as she was looking at me from head to toe. "Oh c'mon Maya, you can't see anything beneath my skirt. I'm fully covered," I said. They all began laughing. "That's not what I'm worried about" said Maya with a smile. "Then why mention it? You make me insecure right now" I said. "No Lia, I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to make you insecure" said Maya. "It's fine but your comments mean something, they hold a value" I said. "You're like a sister to me that's why I tease you" said Maya. Those words really did mean a lot to me before, but not anymore. The reason for that is because of her brother, Adam. Ever since things have not been good between me and him, Maya has been acting like an unstable woman towards me. "Yeah, alright" I said as I laughed.
My eyes were attached to the floor in the next second, but that did not prevent me from noticing that a figure was walking towards me, it was Maya's older brother. "I need to go to the bathroom guys, I'll be quick," I said in a squeaky voice. "You can't go now Lia, the class is about to start," said Julio. There she was, walking down the hallway, Mrs. Lambert. Happier than I have ever seen her. "I'm sorry for being late class, as you may know, I've become a grandma this lovely morning to a baby boy named Lucas," she said. The entire class was congratulating her on becoming a grandma and cheering for the newborn baby. Adam was nowhere to be seen, as I looked from my left to right, twice. Maybe he had to get back to his school I thought to myself, whilst I found my seat in the back of the classroom. Mrs. Lambert was ready to begin the first lesson of the day.
