BIKINI ATOLL, MARSHAL ISLANDS - 1984

The sky was a span of brilliant pinks and oranges as the sun was setting on the pacific island. A ship that was anchored 1,345 feet offshore, bobbing in the waves. The captain was down in the lower deck, snoring away thanks to the gentle rocking of the vessel.

On the beach of Bikini Island sat a motorboat, fully beached on the sand so the lapping waves couldn't carry it out with the tide. Beside the motorboat was a freshly made campfire that had four teens around it. The two boys were carrying a cooler towards the fire while the two girls were standing and talking to each other. They were obviously excited at the fact that they were able to get onto an restricted island.

"Ladies, Marcus," the man, Jared, stated as he and Marcus set the cooler down onto the soft sand. "Now you know why my dad's the best."

The ladies giggled as Jared handed the beers out to everyone.

"Yes, yes, we are all deeply sorry for doubting you." the blond-haired girl, Amy, continued to giggle.

"How did your father even manage to do this for us?" asked the second girl, Diana, as she opened her beer.

"Perks of being high up on the ladder." smirked Jared as he opened his own and took his first, big swig.

"It's sort of amazing." Marcus spoke up after he took a swig from his bottle. "No one's set foot here for years until now, with us."

"Well, that's our government for you, making sure that stuff like this site wastes away...so to speak."

I heard that there's still some lingering radiation around here from those tests from back in the fifties or something like that." Diana looked at the others.

"That's what they say." Marcus spoke as he looked at her. "Who knows if it's still true."

Jared snorted before taking a sip of his beer. "I say that's all bullshit. There's no way radiation is lingering around here for that long. I mean, look at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. They recovered a few years after we dropped bombs on them."

"It's all like...dust and all that, right? So...would it go away quickly?" Amy questioned and Jared could only shrug in response.

"Weren't the tests here stronger than the bombs dropped on those two cities?" Diana asked, making Jared pause in mid swig and he was clear he hadn't thought about that.

Marcus took this time to glance out at the boat and he noticed that... something was happening. The boat was bobbing more violently than before with churning water behind it. He squinted for a moment before looking over to his friends. "Uh... guys, is anyone seeing what I'm seeing?"

The others followed his gaze and watched as the boat bobbed up more violently once, twice, before suddenly rising out of the water with churning, foaming water beneath it.

"What the hell's going on? Did one of those underwater volcanoes erupt?" Fear began to creep into Diana's voice.

Marcus shook his head. "I don't know. I don't know if there's one even around here– hey, you guys see something behind the boat?"

Behind the vessel, a long, thin object rose out of the water before slapping back down with a harsh splash. A gigantic figure rose next, its large silhouette black against the ever-darkening sky behind it. Then, a high-pitched squeal echoed out from it before the squeal lowered into a low, menacing growl that struck fear down the teens' spines.

"HOLY SHIT!" Jared yelped above the screams of the girls.

"W-What do we do?!" Amy asked, hysterical. "Jared, what do we–"

The tranquility of the evening of the other islands was cut through by a flash of light and a mushroom cloud reaching up towards the clouds as the shockwaves hit them. It was signaling the ominous things to come.
