"This," Queen Carmine announced, flinging her daughter's room door open wide, "is Princess Dawn of the SkyWings, sister of Princess Sunset, daughter of Queen Carmine."

Kind of deduced that myself, Eclipse thought. "Are you... Doing anything about-"

"Train her," Queen Carmine said coldly. She lowered her voice. "I know you're the NightWing animus, Eclipse. You have no secrets. Actually, I'd like to say I used Seashell as bait."

"Why would I train her? I don't owe you anything!" Eclipse snarled.

"Oh. My. Gosh. That was NOT wise," Princess Dawn announced, laughing as she surveyed Eclipse and her surroundings. "My goodness, you are quite perfect, aren't you? Not a single blemish on those perfectly red scales!"

"What, there's imperfect red?" Eclipse asked in irritation.

Princess Dawn only looked surprised for a moment before her surprise faded into a practiced grin that split her features.

"My gosh, you are quite talkative, aren't you? Got quite the mouth. I'll give you a little advice, inferior SkyWing - I don't take kindly to rudeness! But anyway," Princess Dawn glanced over at her mother, her tail sweeping on the ground in a zigzagging motion, "if you're to train me, so be it! Do I need to tell you what happened to the last one?"

"There will be no need for that," Queen Carmine answered smoothly, and Princess Dawn faked disappointed.

"Such a shame. It was quite the tragic story as well! But who am I to go against Mother's orders? Now, go on, SkyWing, attack me." The princess waited patiently for Eclipse to attack. She didn't.

"I'm not a SkyWing," Eclipse said quietly, and removed her bracelet.

Bright ruby red scales darkened to jet black, pale red scales on her chest faded all the way to a silvery-white, and her purple eyes transformed to ice blue.

"Wow," Princess Dawn said, although she didn't sound all that amazed. "Some kind of party trick?"

"I'm an animus," Eclipse hissed. "You could be dead at the snap of my claws, and you'll never see daylight again."

Queen Carmine coughed delicately in the corner.

Eclipse's eyes turned to her. "You won't be spared."

"Train my daughter, I said. Train her. Two hours. Then you may go."

"Very well," Eclipse said evenly. "This will be fun."

Then she set Dawn's entire room on fire.
