"dude, just ask him out already! i mean, you're already tight with yuji, so why don't you just ask him what choso's type is? it's not like he'll say no," my friend said as she slathered on a fresh coat of lip gloss after taking a last sip of her boba.

sighing heavily, i turned off my phone screen and set it on the table, picking up my own drink as i dropped my chin in my palm and idly nibbled on the straw.

"i don't wanna rely on yuji- plus if it turns out that choso doesn't like me, then that'll make it really awkward for him because he definitely won't choose between his friend and his brother," i shook my head.

"so," mai set down her drink and crossed her arms on the table to look at me, "you're just gonna cry over him until he eventually moves on? and then what? you don't- choso's not the kinda guy you just "forget about". if that's the case, i'll tell nobara to ask him to save me from all the whining," she said sassily as she reached for her phone.

hurriedly, i snatched it from her reach and held it behind my back. she huffed and dropped her arm, pouting up at me through her eyelashes.

"you can't tell anybody, mai. not your sister, not your nephew, not nobara, not yuji, not anyone about him."

"tell us about who?" jumping in my seat, i turned around and immediately locked eyes with yuji, who had been leaning down over the back of my chair. he grinned and walked around, reaching for a seat for himself.

thankfully, the slip was momentarily forgotten as maki, nobara, megumi, and yuji sat at the table around mai and i.

"what are you guys doing here?" megumi asked as he settled in, taking a sip from my drink. yuji, locking eyes on the half-filled paper container of noodles and vegetables in front of me, reached for it.

"we just came to hang out for a little. mai does have the best opinion on clothes- other than nobara- but you had plans today," i pouted over at her as she acknowledged my almost slip up with a wave of her hand from where she was talking to maki, "anyways, what are you all doing here? it's kinda weird to see you all out and about before noon, especially on a friday." i giggled as yuji sighed sadly into his- my- noodles.

"this is the only time we could come. i need to get a birthday present for my brother, so choso's on his way to help. we're going off of his schedule," yuji explained as he took another bite from the container, taking my boba off of megumi's hands.

the two swapped containers, yuji pulling the boba closer as megumi slid the food container over to his side of the table, picking up my ex fork.

"and i'm here because yuji gets distracted and tries to buy everything and choso just lets him," megumi said, ignoring said teen who exclaimed in anger. as they started their own argument, i nodded to myself, thinking that everything made sense.

wait.

no, it didn't.

choso was coming here for a birthday present for himself? was yuji really that bad at picking out gifts, especially for a brother as doting as choso?

wait.

oh, my gosh. choso was on his was here.

hurriedly, i stood and grabbed my shoulder bag and phone, deciding to ditch whatever remained of my lunch, especially since the two boys had no qualm with taking it off my hands.

"well, i have to go, but i'll see you guys on monday? bye," hurriedly, i began walking away, but stopped when I heard footsteps coming after me.

i turned to see mai, who was glaring at me.
