(y/n) looked from Karin to the strange programmer, then over to (bf/n), who was laying on the bed nearby, hooked into the neXus system through the various wires attatched to her body. "I-I don't know... There's just so much here that we can't be sure of... Emmet, go call 911. Hopefully (bf/n) can pull through this..."
The brunette nodded and whipped out his cell phone, distancing himself from the rest of the crowd as he proceeded to call the police station, which quickly transferred the call to the ambulance. "H-Hello? Yeah, a close friend of mine just passed out after a power outage. We think the surge might have had something to do with it..."
While the call went on, (y/n) sat at (bf/n)'s side, waiting patiently as she hoped against all hope her friend would wake up...move...something! As she reached for her friend's hand, she noticed her own hands were trembling. Her heart was hammering in her chest as she attempted to even her breathing pattern. If her best friend was still in there somewhere, then it was her job to be strong for as long as she was by her side. (bf/n) would need that strength and some kind of assurance that things would be okay.
Karin, noticing that (y/n) was fighting to keep her head on straight, bit her lip in frustration. Ranting at the programmers - even if it was partially their fault this had happened in the first place - wasn't going to solve anything. Giving her most cruel deathglare towards the three young adults, she zipped past Lili on her way to the front door, taking note that for once in the entire time she had been forced to put up with the obnoxious prep, the girl seemed to have a look of sympathy in her eyes. This, along with the other incidents leading up to now, unnerved Karin greatly as she continued running along the side of the road, flagging down the ambulance when she had finally found them.
(y/n) watched, stunned, as the ambulance workers came over to where she was, stripping (bf/n) of the multiple wires and placing her limp form on a stretcher before hastily wheeling her out of the mall. Suddenly, it was as if every memory of every single thing she couldn't stand about this world came flooding back all at once. She realized now that the games she had accumulated were little more than temporary escape routes to avoid the supposedly 'dull' life she was living at the moment. And for what? The ultimate escape was Death itself, and after this, she worried that said escape might forever separate herself from everyone she ever cared about. "Alright, then."
"(y/n), what..?" Emmet began, confused.
"You people can all hear me, right?" (y/n) shouted as loud as her voice could manage, ignoring her friends who were standing next to her. "I'm making a promise, here and now! The Gaming Goddess of (y/t) won't pick up a controller ever again until (bf/n) recovers!"
"But you don't know if she will, (y/n). How can you manage to keep a promise like that? You've gamed your whole life!" Karin protested.
"She will, Karin. She has to..." (y/n) responded in a serious tone.
But, despite all the doctor's best efforts, (bf/n) never did recover.
And so, the story of the Gaming Goddess faded from truth to rumor, then from rumor to myth, myth to legend, and then eventually completely disappeared from the minds of all who ever knew her.
