The Double Black.

An infamous team set up years ago by Mori, and randomly continued by both Mori and Fukuzawa when they wish to cooperate together.

This was a little different, though, as they has no mission together.

Dazai wandered through the city of Yokohama, at peace. He was finally relaxed for once, not forcing himself to joke about anything or think about anything. His soft brown eyes looked through the city, but stopped at a sound.

A crash.

Dazai was unsure on why he had heard such a loud noise and looked where he saw it just to see a familiar red glow and a building crashing to the ground.

Chuuya.

That realization made Dazai start sprinting, his heart feeling like it was beating out of his chest. He was horrified to think Chuuya used his ability... used Corruption. And never even asked for his help as backup.

Dazai felt betrayed, but that feeling would have to be handled some other time. People ran past him, screaming loudly in fear. The sound made him more worried.

Why didn't Chuuya say he would use corruption? Why didn't he call me? Text me? Something... Dazai thought. The fear he felt as he ran past broken buildings. Just one touch was all he needed to get to break Chuuya out of his corruption. One.

Dazai slid to a stop at the sight, seeing Chuuya regretfully floating in the air, surrounded by red with blood coming from his eyes, mouth, nose, and ears. The familiar markings covered Chuuya's skin.

Chuuya twitched as he fell from the sky like a fallen angel, his eyes closed and the red glow disappearing. His body looked mangled and worn out.

Dazai sprinted to try and catch Chuuya. Right when he had Chuuya in his grasp, he used his ability to cancel out Corruption.

The markings on Chuuya completely disappeared, but his eyes remained closed.

"Chuuya...?" Dazai spoke softly. "You have to wake up, now..." He laid Chuuya down on the rubble and kneeled beside him, seeing just how much blood was coming from him.

Dazai's eyes widened as he touched Chuuya's cheek, feeling it was cold other than from the blood. He slid his hand down to Chuuya's wrist.

He froze. No pulse. Chuuya was completely limp... He had no pulse... And he was cold...

Tears filled Dazai's eyes. "You're not supposed to be the one to control your heartbeat... If you did, you should have told me, Slug..."

Dazai couldn't believe it. He... This was impossible. He caught him in time. He nullified Corruption in time. This wasn't supposed to happen.

"Why... why didn't you text me... or call me... And tell me you'd use that damned corruption...? You knew it... That I couldn't save you..." Dazai's voice cracked as he spoke.

"You had a death wish, Slug..." Dazai's voice almost went out. Finally, the reality hit him.

Chuuya would never come back. He would never banter with Dazai, call him names... Never again...

Dazai let out a blood curdling scream of grief, everything hitting him heavily as he held the dead man in his arms.

He had sworn to Chuuya to help him return to normal when he went into Corruption.

I failed.
