Tessa's POV

I wince at the bright light and slowly start to open my eyes. I don't know how long I've been out, but all I know is that I fucked up. I look around the room and see Derek sleeping on the chair next to me. The pain was so bad, I could barely take it any longer. Then I began thinking about the car, and my stuff that was in my pockets. Where did it go?! I hope no one found it. My heart rate spiked up and the monitor started beeping frantically. I was having a panic attack.
Derek jolted awake.
"Tess? Tess? You're awake, what's wrong, what hurts?" He asked worriedly. He hit the code and Dr. Bailey ran into the room shortly after.
"What's up!?"
"I don't know! She might be having a panic attack."
"help- help me. It hurts." I say in between my breaths.
"Oh hon, it's okay. I'm going to give you some morphine. The pain should go away soon." Bailey said sincerely.
I nodded and looked back at Derek, I needed to know how bad it was. I gave him a look, and he understood.
"Tessa...you almost died. Again. You were rushed into surgery once we got you here. Doctor Bailey and Richard performed the surgery. I made sure you were getting the best help-"
"Jus-just tell me, what's wrong."
"okay...firstly your leg was completely broken, they fixed it. Your wrist is sprained, that should heal in its own. And um- uh-...."
"Spit it out!" I demanded.
"Your liver had so much damage to it, they had to remove a part of it earlier. And eventually you will need a new liver, especially if you keep up with your current habits...you also have a concussion, I know this is a lot to handle...but everything will be okay. I promise."
Once I heard it, I knew I really fucked up this time. I mean, what if they kick me off the program. I just got here and this is basically all I have left. Derek looked worried because my heart rate was increasing again.
"How long am I going to be out for?"
"We're not 100% sure yet, but most likely a month at the least." Dr. Bailey told me.
I sighed. This is going to be the longest month of my life.
"And you'll have to start Physical Therapy tomorrow as well, I want you to be back to normal as soon as possible."
Bailey told me while walking back out of my hospital room.
I look back at Derek, and I take his hand and squeeze it.
"Der, I promise you...I promise I will get clean, starting right now, I want to change." I say to him with pure honesty.
"Thank you Tess, I'm going to help you through it 100% of the time. I believe in you.
After his words we sat in silence for about 5 minutes before I started to fall asleep. I am very tired.

Later

It was now around 3:00pm, and I was waking up again, this time the lights were dimmed. Thank god.
I looked around the room and this time it was Meredith who was sitting in the chair next to me.
"Hey Mer, where's Derek?"
"I told him I would keep you company while he went home and got a shower, ate food, and freshened up."
"Oh, okay. Thanks Meredith." I smiled
"How are you feeling, about all of this."
"I think this was a wake up call. Telling me it's time for a change." I replied back to her.
She just smiled and said, "that's good, I'm here for you."
"Thank you, seriously, thank you." I say with all of my heart.

Time skip: 4 weeks

I was discharged about 2 and 1/2 weeks ago and now I'm finally going to see if I can get this stupid cast off of my leg. I've been wait in for this moment ever since Derek told me I broke my leg.
"You ready Tess? C'mon or we're gonna be late!" Derek yelled from his new truck.
"Yep! I'm coming! Give me a minute!" I yell back to him while slowly making my way out of the trailer.
Once I get in the truck he starts driving back to the hospital.

After about 10 minutes we are pulling into the hospital and I'm getting super excited. I can't wait to walk, and get back to work!

We headed towards the waiting room and I waited for my name to be called.

"It happened! I can finally walk!" I say to Derek while walking back into the waiting room.
"They told me I could be back to work in a week!!"
"Are you sure you'll be ready? I can call the chief to give you more time?" He told me.
"DEREK, trust me, if I could've worked with a cast, I would have, but they didn't let me, I just wanna get back to work!"
"Alright Tess" he laughs while we walk out of the hospital.

During the next 7 days I just did the normal. I waited and waited for the days to end. I even baked a cake because I was so bored. However when Derek tried it, he said I needed more practice.
So I'm not a great baker but I'm a great cleaner. I cleaned the whole trailer inside and out. And I even washed Derek's truck for him. I still felt bad about crashing his car.

But at last it was Monday! And my alarm just woke me up to go to work.

A/N
This is a weird chapter, I don't know if I like yet, but here it is. Definitely shorter but there will be longer ones later.
