It was a bloody fight, Eli going down quickly. "Eli! NO!!" Freya screamed, running to his side, but not before getting knocked over and having her stomach slashed open. "Freya..." Eli weakly reached out to her, fingers brushing.

The Shadow Clan appeared two minutes after the attackers had fled. Eyes widening upon seeing their allies lying in twin pools of blood, they picked both up and vanished, heading to a village to heal Eli and Freya.

Once in the village, the Shadow Clan leader instructed his warriors to place the pair in healing waters, beginning to chant. "What's he going to do to them?" One asked. "Heal them. Make them part slug/part Shadow Clan and distrustful, able to speak the Slug language. It's the least he can do for them." The other answered.

Unbeknownst to the Shadow Clan, Will Shane had snuck into the healing chamber, confused as to what was happening.

Ten years later.

Will accidentally stumbled across a cave, calling out. "Hello?" He spoke. A young dark haired woman came to investigate, eyes widening upon recognising him. Darting back inside, she released a set of flurried chirps. A second set of footsteps sounded, an extremely familiar face emerging from the cave.

"Eli? What happened? Why are you and that girl here?" Will asked, slowly stepping forward.  His son backed away, wary. Instead of answering, Eli scribbles his explanation on some paper. "Was attacked. My wife, Freya and I nearly died. The Shadow Clan healed us, but at a cost. We became distrustful, able to speak the slug language, part slug/part Shadow Clan." Will nodded, saddened.

Eli turned to his wife, chirping rapidly. "Can he stay with us for a time?" She narrowed her eyes at him. "Only if he helps out around the place. My one condition." He conceded, writing her message down. Will watched, reading the words in his head.

"Deal." He presented his hand for both to shake, hopeful. Eli and Freya accepted, leading him inside their home. They showed him where he'd be living, a big room to store all his things. Unpacking, Will made sure to decorate every inch of his room, happy and satisfied at his work.

Only two months after moving in with his son and daughter-in-law, Will proved himself by guarding Eli and Freya's twins from danger.

No longer watched closely by the younger woman, who knew he could keep his grandchildren safe, she busied herself with other jobs.
