Third person pov:

We see Y/n and Jess in a small clearing in the Emerald Forest, with Jess donning some training weights on her armor.

Y/n: Alright Jess, this marks the first day of your tutoring under me. Today we're just gonna see where you're at already so we know what we need to work on. First and foremost, dodging. Because if you can avoid getting hit, you can counter-strike your enemy.

Jess: G-got it. *in her mind* Why is he so kind to me? I don't deserve it...

Y/n lifts a boulder about the same diameter as his arm and throws it at Jess while she's still lost in thought. She suddenly snaps back to reality (oop! There goes gravity!) and tries to dodge, but she isn't fast enough and gets hit in the shoulder.

Jess: OW!

Y/n: Sorry, sorry. But if you're stuck in thought, don't expect the enemy to wait on you. You gotta think on your feet! Strategize as you move. Now... let's try with a smaller one. It'll be easier to dodge.

He picks up a rock the size of his hand and throws it at her. She manages to evade it... barely.

Y/n: Alright, that was a close dodge. We'll do that a couple more times, then move on to throwing it from different angles and eventually with you being blindfolded. Once we get that down, we'll move onto the bigger ones.

Jess: W-why the blindfold?

Y/n: Cuz you'll need to rely on not just your sight, but ALL of your senses if you want to survive. When one's blocked, the brain focuses more energy on the others to compensate.

Y/n lets her process that for a second and he quickly throws another rock. This time, she sidesteps it and her eyes are focused on him.

Y/n: There ya go! Now you're getting the hang of it! Now... THINKFAST!

He throws three rocks at the same time and Jess darts to the left, avoiding them but putting herself in the way of a fourth. Thinking on her feet like Y/n said, she uses the momentum to slide under it. Smiling at this, he gives her a round of applause with a proud smile on his face.

Y/n: You're learning so fast Jess! At this rate, you'll be dodging like a funny skeleton before the end of the week!

Jess: T-Thank you! But... are you s-sure about this?

Y/n: What do you mean?

Jess: I-...

...

Y/n: Wait. one second. Gotta make sure no one's eavesdropping.

Y/n pov:

I Ice Punch the ground, forming a giant sealed off igloo just like the one I blew up all those Grimm in during initiation.

Y/n: There we go. Sound-proofed too.

Jess: I... *sigh*... I faked my transcripts for getting into Beacon. A-all I wanted was to make my family proud and- *tears up* I-I can't even Do THAT right-

I quickly wrap her up in a warm hug.

Y/n: Heyy... Hey it's ok Jess... I don't think any less of you. Besides, those transcripts are nothing but useless pieces of paper. So don't beat yourself up over this, alright? I'll be there for ya every step of the way. I promise.

Jess: I-I... T-thank you...

Y/n: Anytime buddy... anytime. Besides, I told ya I already knew, didn't I?
