(LOWER TOWN – DAY: Merlin is in the stocks being pelted with rotten fruit and vegetables by children.)

Merlin: Oh, no.

(Gaius laughs as he walks by.  Celeste stands by a stall that's near the stocks with her arms crossed across her chest.  A small smirk on her face as she watches the young children throw rotten fruit at one of her soulmates.)

Merlin (looking at his soulmate, seeing her sarcastic smile): I see you're enjoying yourself.

(The children leave, and Celeste walks over where she began to clean Merlin's face off from the rotten tomatoes that were dripping down his face.  It was then that Gwen approaches the unofficial couple.)

Gwen: I'm Guinevere, but most people call me Gwen. I'm the Lady Morgana's maid.

Celeste (holding out her hand to Gwen): Hello Gwen, I'm Celeste. Gaius' granddaughter.

(Gwen takes hold of Celeste's hand and shakes it before looking at Merlin.)

Merlin: Right. I'm Merlin.

(Merlin reaches his hand further out of the stocks to shake Gwen's.)

Merlin: Although, most people just call me Idiot.

(Celeste couldn't help but laugh at Merlin's reply.)

Gwen (trying to be polite): No, no, no. I saw what you did. It was so brave.

Merlin: It was stupid.

Celeste: It was very stupid, love.

(Merlin playfully glared at his soulmate.  Gwen looked from Celeste to Merlin.  She put to and to together that the pair in front of her were soulmates.)

Gwen: Well, I'm glad you walked away. You weren't going to beat him.

Merlin (snort): Oh, I...I can beat him.

Gwen: You think? Because you don't look like one of these big, muscle-y kind of fellows.

Merlin (sarcastically): Thanks.

Gwen (trying to reassure him): No! No, I'm sure you're stronger than you look. It's just, erm...Arthur's one of these real rough, tough, save the world kind of men, and...well...

Celeste/Merlin: What?

Gwen: You don't look like that.

(He motions for her to move closer.  Both Celeste and Gwen leaned closer.)

Merlin: I'm in disguise.

(Gwen is confused for a moment, then laughs, Celeste laughing as well at her soulmate.)

Gwen: Well, it's great you stood up to him.

Merlin: What? You think so?

Gwen: Arthur's a bully, and everyone thought you were a real hero.

Celeste (a frown on her face and whispers): Great.

(Why did she have to have a soulmate who was a prince?  Why couldn't it have been  a knight or someone other than a boy who thought he could do whatever he wanted to. Merlin heard his soulmate and glances at her in confusion.  Celeste looks at him knowing that he heard her.  She shakes her head indicating that she'd tell him later.)

Merlin: Oh, yeah?

Gwen (nods): Mm-hmm.

(The children approach with more rotten fruit.)
