What you would need: a crap ton of torches, at least one crafting table, a diamond pickaxe, and at least 2 chests.
What you would find: diamonds, iron, coal, gold, redstone, coal, emeralds, etc.
My tip: have a bunch of sticks and at least a few wooden doors so you can make a small house in the hidden mine. Also you should have an already-crafted bed in your inventory and memorize or write down the coordinates of the mines you started exploring, but because your inventory maxed out, couldn't mine the rest of the stuff you wanted.
