I got one foot in the golden life, one foot in the gutter

So close to the other side, so far from the wonder

I got one foot in the golden life, one foot in the gutter

So sick of the tug of war that keeps pulling me under

"Where are the Guardians of the Globe? There's been no sign of the Iconic heroes for over a week, besides Valkyrie at the most recent alien attack." The woman on the News reported, Stella being dumb enough to deepen her own wounds by turning on the station for background noise while she did homework. Cecil once again keeping low contact with her if not outright ignoring her messages. She had been out of the GDA hospital for a week and was better. She was ready for a fight. "Leaving the Local champions to pick up the slack. We will be back with further details after this short-"

She was ready to be a Guardian.

Stella huffed and pushed herself up from the kitchen table, snatching the remote from the couch cushions and turning it off. Her grip a little too rough, the plastic creaking under her fingers before she tossed it – okay, threw it gently – back onto the couch.

"Twelve minutes." Cecil reminded, interrupting the father-son moment, "And don't worry Debbie, He's not going alone." Cecil looked at the woman in her bathrobe. A small sigh of relief passed her lips as she nodded at the man with a grateful grin.

"Why not? Mark can handle this just fine on his own. He's a Viltrimite, he doesn't need help." Nolan cut in, crossing his arms over his chest, his eyes narrowing down at Cecil.

"He's greener than the pentagon's grass. No offense Mark." Cecil held up a hand as he glanced at the teenage boy, "The original plan was to send you. But If it's Mark, I'll send Valkyrie too, to even it out." Cecil nodded to himself as Nolan scoffed.

"Nolan." Debbie scolded before looking at Cecil, "Thank you."

"Don't mention it." Cecil disappearing in a flash of white as soon as the words left his mouth.

"Kid." Cecil called, teleporting into Stella's apartment, seeing her glaring at the dark tv screen and raising an eyebrow, "Meet Invincible in orbit, now. Incoming deep space projectile, alien in nature."

"So now you need me?" Stella scoffed, lifting up her shirt, already wearing the top of her suit under the fabric, grabbing her cape from the back of her couch. "I got it. You can go now."

Cecil sighed, "Please be careful." He wasn't expecting a response, the man just disappearing in his signature flash of white.

Holding her cape in her hands, Stella sighed, unbuttoning her jeans, and grabbing her diadem from the counter. Leaving out the window.

Stella was a faster flier than Invincible and it showed with how she got to the rendezvous point almost a full minute before he did. Invincibles' eyes lit up when he saw the Guardian, grinning as they both floated at the edge of Earth's breathable atmosphere.
