San had just left the smoothie shop, which was conveniently located across from his table in the cafeteria. He had made it a habit to pair his baked goods with a drink, so he had just ordered a cucumber smoothie to go with his red velvet mini cake. The smoothie shop had a nice ambiance, with pastel walls and potted plants on the windowsills. San had always been drawn to the carefully crafted spaces that surround us, which is why he decided to pursue his studies in architecture. Once his drink was ready, he flashed a grateful smile at the worker behind the counter before stepping out.As San approached his previous spot, he caught sight of a figure hovering over his table. It was evident that the person was attempting to abscond with his cake, hands moving towards the white box. Upon drawing closer, he noticed a tattoo etched on the nape of the person's neck, reading: "I'm never alone, and I will never be.", and immediately knew who the boy was. San couldn't help but release a scoff, not out of irritation, but laced with amusement. These encounters had become somewhat of a source of entertainment, bordering on comical.
He moved past the initial shock of seeing the boy during orientation, and began to feel more at ease. He knew that it was going to be tough to keep avoiding him, especially since they shared a professor together earlier. San didn't want to spend his last year of University playing games and missing out on the chance to get to know someone he was so drawn to. He was certain that he would regret it if they didn't cross paths again, and he didn't want to let that happen. It was time to take a chance and see where things could go.
Following his brief conversation with Seonghwa the previous night, his curiosity was piqued about Wooyoung. The cautionary message regarding potential problems did not deter him; instead, it only heightened his interest. He was eager to witness the situation firsthand. To find out for himself.
"Do you steal people's food often?"
Wooyoung spun around rapidly as soon as he heard the voice, his eyes scanning the man standing in front of him with a mixture of curiosity and caution. The man had sharp, piercing eyes that seemed to demand his full attention. His jawline was chiseled and well-defined, while his straight nose only added to his overall attractiveness.
During their first encounter, Wooyoung was too preoccupied with the man's jumpy demeanor to take note of his looks. However, this time around, the man appeared to be more relaxed and at ease, as if they had known each other for years. Wooyoung couldn't help but admire his chill demeanor, which was a stark contrast to the aloof and guarded persona he had initially projected.
Wooyoung's playful demeanor was evident as he flashed a sly grin at him. With a hint of mischief in his voice, he asked, "Do I look like a thief to you?" Dropping his hands behind his back, Wooyoung couldn't resist the urge to take a peek at the dessert that was sitting tantalizingly on the table now behind him. He wondered if the man would let him take it.
San's head tilted to the side, his eyes narrowing in curiosity, as he raised an eyebrow. "You're right," he replied in a monotonous tone, taking a sip of his smoothie. The cool liquid slid down his throat, momentarily soothing his parched mouth. "Take all you want," he added, his lips curving into a faint smile.
"Wait, really?" Wooyoung's eyes widened in surprise as he reached behind him to pick up the cake. Confusion was evident on his face, but his heart fluttered with excitement. Was he really that charming? However, his hopes were dashed as San quickly added, "No," and grabbed the box from Wooyoung's hands before taking a seat at his table. Wooyoung's gaze followed him as he settled down, and he decided to join him by taking a seat as well.
"What was going on at orientation?" Wooyoung's question caught San off guard, and for a moment he froze, unsure of how to respond. He knew that he couldn't tell him the truth without sounding like a complete weirdo. So instead, he shifted in his seat and tried to come up with a more socially acceptable answer. "To be honest," he said, "I just wasn't having the best day." He shrugged. "We all have our days," Wooyoung started with a smile. "Are you new here? That was my first time seeing you around." San set his smoothie down on the table and took a deep breath, silently relieved that the conversation seemed to be moving in a different direction.
"I'm actually from Namhae," he chuckled, "Seoul is a lot to get used to." Wooyoung hummed in thought for a moment, nodding his head in agreement, before a brilliant idea struck him, causing him to gasp. "I know just the thing to get you settled in," he exclaimed, retrieving his phone from his bag. After a quick scroll, he held the phone up to San's face, causing him to instinctively lean back slightly. "At the start of every semester, my friend throws a welcome back party." He started, coming off a lot more excited than he intended to. "I'm not sure if it's your thing... but it's happening this weekend, if you're down!!"
San's eyes moved over the screen of his phone as he read the flyer plastered on the screen. He felt a mix of excitement and apprehension as he thought about attending the upcoming event. San was not the biggest fan of the party scene, preferring the cozy atmosphere of a bar if he ever wanted to drink and hang out. However, he was intrigued by the idea of spending more time with the boy, and knew the party would be a good setup. "Sure, I'm down."
The younger one smiled brightly in response to San's affirmative answer, and the latter couldn't help but feel a little smitten. "Take my number and I'll send you the details!" the boy said eagerly. San nodded in agreement and passed his phone over to the latter.
He swiped around, attention on the screen. "I'm Wooyoung," the boy introduced as he typed his number into the device. San watched as Wooyoung's fingers moved quickly across the screen, feeling a bit accomplished at the fact that he was able to bag the boy's number. "I'm San," he responded, his voice a little hoarse with nerves.
As Wooyoung handed the phone back to San, he dialed the number so that Wooyoung could save his digits as well. The two students talked for almost an hour, discussing various topics until they were interrupted by two other men. "Wooyoung, bro. we've been searching for you everywhere." Yeosang spat, causing both San and his acquaintance to turn their heads towards the voice. "Did you manage to find any cake?" Jongho taunted, his voice laced with sarcasm. "Sorta kinda..." Wooyoung replied, his eyes glancing toward the cake box placed in front of San. "This is San." San waved slightly towards the other two men, the introduction having already been done by Wooyoung. "These are my friends, Yeosang and Jongho," Wooyoung said, hands pushing toward his confidants. "Yeosang is the one who throws the party I was telling you about!"
"Ah, you told him?" Yeosang started towards Wooyoung, hands grazing his pockets. "You going?" He asked, attention now pushing towards San. "Hopefully I'll have time to pop in." He answered with a chuckle, sitting back in his chair.
Yeosang and Jongho nodded, "It should be a good time," Both of their eyes darting towards Wooyoung as if they shared a few brain cells. Sensing their gaze, Wooyoung knew it was time to head out. He sighed towards his friends before bidding goodbye to the latter. "I'll see you this weekend." He said, standing up from his seat. Just as the three were about to take off, San decided he needed to leave some sort of impression.
"Wait. Here." He started, picking the still unopened box of cake up from the table, and passing it towards Wooyoung. "Keep it, but maybe ask next time." San's words were laced with a hint of mischief, as if to tease Wooyoung for his absent-mindedness. Wooyoung gratefully took the box, playfully rolling his eyes before following the other two out of the cafeteria.
