Nishant and Ahem did not dare to tell Randheer about his father's lies. They chose to stay silent instead.

"So," said Randheer angrily," you are not going to answer my questions! I will not tolerate this!"

He walked towards the other end of the room and picked up a huge wooden bat.

"Oh dear," said Ahem shivering," Sahab is in a very angry mood today. We better run or else.........."

The two men fled for their lives. Randheer ran after them yelling,"wait here you cowards! You....You liars! You........"

"Randheer stop," Mr. Raizada stopped him by grabbing him from behind,"whats wrong with you Randheer? Have you lost your mind?"

"They lied to me bauji," he said dropping the bat," they lied about Amrit and I...........I believed them. I..........."

"Calm down Randheer. How do you know they lied? Did they say something?"

"Bauji........she was here! Amrit was here! Disguised as Sahiba, I dont know why, I didnt recognise her....I..........."

"Those two Britishers," said Randheer turning to look at Lord and Lady Caldicott," they will answer my questions."

Randheer angrily walked towards the English couple despite his father's protests.

"Now tell me Sir," he said to Lord Caldicott," why did Sahiba run away?"

"No," said Lady Caldicott," thats not true. She was unwell and returned home."

"Stop lying both of you," said Randheer in a threatening tone.

"Mr. Raizada," a police official stood at their doorstep.

"Do come in sir," Randheer said.

"I am sorry to inform you sir," the policeman said," but these two are no British royalty. They are mere thieves who fled from England months ago!"

"You must be mistaken sir," Mr. Raizada said.

"Not at all!" said the policeman," I am here to arrest them."

"That pathetic Indian girl!" cried Lady Caldicott," Had she not run away, we would have stolen precious jewells and escaped by now!"

"What do you mean?" said Randheer.

"Why in the world would we adopt an Indian, a slave?" said Lady Caldicott under the influence of the alcohol she had been drinking," we found her outside, walking into the party with a friend."

"Calm down my love," said Lord Caldicott to his wife," just keep quiet."

"I," said Lady Caldicott in a sinister voice," I threatened to tear apart her clothes. And you know what, these silly Indian girls........she was scared.......This....this bloody Indian culture........."

"Enough!" yelled Randheer angrily, his fingers curling into a fist.

He grabbed Lord Caldicott by the collar and punched him hard.

"How dare you!" he yelled pushing Lord Caldicott to the floor," how dare you do that to my Amrit! How dare you scare her like that! You....."

He kicked Lord Caldicott really hard.  The policeman stopped him and took the British couple away.

"Bauji," said Randheer," they said that Amrit was here to attend our party. I.....I need to check the guest list!"

AMRIT'S HOSTEL

MIDNIGHT 12AM

Amrit had changed her clothes and put the beautiful ballgown away. The incident with Lord and Lady Caldicott had scared her while Randheer's unkind  behaviour had wounded her heart and soul. She sat on the staircase outside her room crying her heart out.

RAIZADA MANSION

"I cant see her name anywhere," said Randheer scanning the guest list.

"Maybe she was one of the students," his mother suggested," we do invite all the students of your college every year."

"Amrit? A student?" thought Randheer.

And then, the realisation dawned on him. The girl who sat beside Chitra in the classroom, the girl whose face was ways covered with the dupatta......

"Amrit......................." he said.

As if a flash of lightening had struck him, he rushed out into the raging storm looking around for something as if his entire life depended on it. At last, he found his grandmother's ring.

"Amrit Sahni, now enough of this hide and seek game," he said putting the ring back on his finger," I will meet you in college tomorrow."
