I loved Rose from the moment I heard crying. I had contacted My parents as soon as Mary fell asleep. Elwin took Rose to make sure she was breathing right and that there were no complications with Mary. I had a moment alone. I pondered seeing Mary holding Rose. It was the most beautiful thing I could have ever seen in my life, and it continued to be. I saw Mary sleeping soundly, and expression of pure joy and peace on her face.
My mother came in 4 hours later to check on Mary, because 1, Mary's mom wasn't there to, and 2, Mary was awake. Mary's eyes were even prettier than before and glittered brightly. Her skin glowed and her body was back to its normal shape. She was the most beautiful person I had ever seen. June hugged Mary as tight as she dared.
"You were so brave" she said.
"Umm, thanks...June helped " said Mary, a little hesitantly. Their relationship hadn't grown to the full extent it should have, but June and Edaline were filling the void that Mary's mother had left when she had died. Mark stood on the side, laughing at his wife's antics and congratulating me at being a father. Samira and Mary, who had bonded all over again, were talking and talking and talking.
Elwin came in after the commotion and shooed everyone out, accept Mary, to let her rest and recover.
Many days later, all gathered at our home to meet Rose. The ladies cooed and the boys just joked around with each other. Tam and Keefe, of course, were in a heated argument about which type of muffin was superior: chocolate chip, or blueberry. Dex and Stina where at it again, insulting each other with very creative words, such as: "Dimplehead!", "Grriiipple-down!", "snogmead!" and other such things.
We all sat around a table of mallowmelt, which my father had officially dubbed, "the best thing ever since revenge".
A flash of light, and a Nierce council member appeared. "Mary Alex, I, Layla Stoneheart, come with a message. The King, Rodger Varen Alex, has died this day. The counsel has called you, Mary Opal Alex, to assume command of the throne of the Nierce. For the good of the people. We shall convene at sundown tomorrow in the Great Hall of Virtue. " She said. Then she closed up her scroll and vanished, leaving all of the people in attendance astonished.
