Earlier in the day with Zac
After seeing Fatima walk off Zac couldn't help but think about her.  Throughout the meal with his son Zac often found himself thinking about their first encounter. He kept replaying her interaction with the mystery man he assumed to be her husband. How uncomfortable she appeared and angry she became when he spoke to her. It's like the glow she had faded in his presence. The little girl who appeared beside Fatima was a spitting image of her and Zac found himself wondering what a child of theirs would look like. Watching her leave hurt him to the core but there wasn't anything he could do without disrupting her family as well as his. So he said a silent prayer and hoped that God heard him.

PRESENT DAY...

Making small talk with his son Zac couldn't help but feel like a failure as he watched his vibrant son talk about his achievement's and sadden once he brought up his mother Karen. Trying to understand why she always found something more important to do rather than celebrate with him. Zac knew he was tired of having to compensate for Karen's absence but until he knew what he was going to do with his life he decided he would try to fill in the gaps that Karen's absence brought and show up for the both of them every time their son needed.

After dinner Zac and Zachary jr. rode home in silence both preoccupied with things that happened earlier in the day. Zac with finally seeing Fatima even if it wasn't in the idle situation and Zac jr. wondering why his mom had to be his mom. Both guys entered their home after Zac parked with Zachary jr.immediately going to his room and Zac going in search of Karen. Checking their bedroom first Zac was met with a mess and lights on but no Karen. He looked in the bathroom as well as the kitchen and she wasn't there. Sitting on the couch he pulled out his phone to call her and it went straight to voicemail. Frustrated Zac decided not to leave a message he tossed his phone on the couch and went to make sure his son was getting himself ready for bed.

Zac knocks on Zachary jr. bedroom door and is met with silence, opening the door he sees junior asleep on his desk with his phone in his hands. Chuckling to himself he gently shakes junior out of his slumber telling him to get in the bed. Leaving out his room Zac glances back at his son and is instantly pissed.

"Karen had lost her freaking mind if she thinks she's going to keep doing this to our son he mumbles."

Walking through the house Zac's anger begins to get the best of him and his need for a drink is starting to tempt him. Writing a note to junior in case he wakes up he tapes it to the refrigerator  grabbing his keys off the table he rushes out the house hoping to get to the bar before it closes or before he finds himself in jail tonight over Karen.

Heading to the bar Zac begins to replay everything in his life. From his marriage to Karen, fatherhood even his once in a lifetime encounter with Fatima. Trying to figure out where he went wrong. He knows that marrying Karen wasn't the best decision he's ever made but it couldn't be the worst. Even though that's exactly what it felt like. He was suppose to marry his best friend,  his lover and have adventures growing old with her but instead he married a woman who loved the thought of marriage but not the responsibility of it. She was far from the "model wife" if that was even a thing. She was nothing more than a needy roommate who came and went as she pleased. She wasn't even a mom though she birthed their son. Zachary jr. was nothing more than a reason to keep Zac and ensure that she was taken care of for the rest of her life or so she thought. Even their sexual interactions were limited they were on a if she needed basis and she didn't need anything from him a lot of times. He often wondered as he palmed himself if he's always pleasing himself who's pleasing her. But in order to function daily he had to push those thoughts to the back of his mind and go on as if everything was ok.
