12. Elizabeth

His expression was blank like he didn't just tell me half an hour ago that he was cancelling our hook-up.

   I had thought maybe he was busy; after all, he was a cop, but here he was at his grandmother's house.

It was like the earth didn't want us to speak to each other because the next moment, the door flew open and the little girl I saw crying earlier came jogging out of the house holding a fluffy unicorn.

She ran straight to him and attempted to climb him like a tree. " Daddy,  my mum said we can leave now .”A few tears were still stuck on her pretty little face but she was no longer crying.

I looked at Eren and then back at the girl.

Did she just call him Daddy?

It felt like a clip was stuck on my tongue and pushed down my throat.

I raised a brow, waiting for him to say something.

Eren, on the other hand, looked away from me and lifted the girl." is she coming already?"

She nodded and turned to look at me. I gave her a sweet smile and she smiled back. Eren glanced at me. I was expecting him to say something, but instead,d, he just looked away again.

Did he just ignore me?

He turned to look at me again, an unreadable expression on his face.

What the forge was wrong with him!

He opened his mouth to speak but I beat him to it.
"You said you couldn't make it today; I assumed you had a lot of workload.” That was a pretty shitty thing to say but I couldn't stop my tongue. I sounded like an angry girlfriend.

There was a smug look on his face. "yeah I ......" He couldn't finish because the next second, the door opened again, and a man walked out with a woman in her early thirties behind him. He was carrying bags filled with stuff I couldn't see.

He was moving quickly and clumsily" Alright we can leave now .”He said without even looking at his surroundings almost bumping Into me in the process.

Thank God for quick reflexes, I was able to avoid his large frame but not the bag. It collided with my knee within seconds, and a sharp pain shot through me, earning a soft groan from my lips.

I heard a grasp from the lady, angrily she smashed her purse on his shoulder." Ben!!, Look where you're going.”

He whispered a sorry still hurrying towards his car and placing the bags in the trunk.
She walked up to me with sympathy in her eyes.
"I'm so sorry, are you alright? ". She bent to touch my knee, and I jerked away, laughing awkwardly.

Smiling sheepishly, I said ." I'm fine,  it's nothing.”

She straightened and her eyes widened a few millimetres. "I know you; you're my granny's neighbour.“She gasped.

Okay, I didn't expect her to recognise me. I had only seen her a few times, so she was Mrs Hamilton's granddaughter and that would make.....

I looked over to Eren,
I don't see a ring on his finger, but the little girl wouldn't call him dad if he wasn't her dad, right?

Right?

I wasn't sure who I was asking,  I just stood there speechless. My eyes went to him and we locked gazes. He had been staring at me the whole time quietly with that same look on his face.

My face turned red from shame as I remembered that we had kissed.

I had kissed a married man. A man with a child and a family!
