CHAPTER 2 : THE VEIL OF DESTINY
"How could anyone believe in the existence of such a thing?!" Jinho's voice echoed through the stillness of the room, his frustration boiling over into anger. He paced back and forth, his mind unable to comprehend the absurdity of it all. "This is utterly ridiculous!" he exclaimed, his words laced with a mix of disbelief and exasperation.
Just as Jinho's anger began to subside, a sudden knock on his front door shattered the uneasy silence. His heart skipped a beat, and a wave of apprehension washed over him. He hesitated, unsure of what to do next. What if the stranger at the door was the very person he had been questioning? Doubt gnawed at his mind, leaving him paralyzed with indecision. Should he open the door and confront the unknown, or retreat into the safety of his solitude? The choice weighed heavily on his shoulders, the consequences unknown.
Feeling a mix of curiosity and intrigue, Jinho couldn't resist the pull to uncover the identity of the person behind the door. He approached the mini monitor and his breath caught in his throat as he laid eyes on the woman standing outside. Her beauty was breathtaking, surpassing any he had ever seen before. Her radiant presence seemed to glow with an otherworldly aura, captivating him in an instant. The way her eyes sparkled with a hint of mystery and her smile held a touch of enchantment left him spellbound. It was as if time stood still, and he found himself drawn to her like a moth to a flame. With a racing heart, Jinho mustered the courage to open the door, eager to unravel the secrets that lay within this ethereal beauty's presence.
As Jinho's initial perception shattered before his eyes, he found himself in a state of shock and disbelief. The delicate beauty he had imagined turned out to possess an unexpected strength and aggression. The woman's sudden display of power sent him flying backward, his body crashing against the wall. Pain coursed through his being, but it was the overwhelming fear that consumed him now. In that moment, surrounded by a sense of helplessness, Jinho's thoughts turned dark, longing for an escape from the turmoil that had engulfed his life. The weight of the world pressed upon his shoulders, and the desire for a peaceful release from his suffering seemed to be the only solace he sought.
Jinho gasped for breath, his heart pounding in his chest as he mustered the courage to speak. "Who are you?" he asked, his voice trembling with a mix of fear and desperation. "What is happening? First, a chilling man with an aura of dread, and now you... you possess such incredible strength... I can't help but feel that I'm in danger."
The woman's eyes widened with surprise, a flicker of recognition crossing her face. "You mean a man with jet black hair and a piercing gaze has already come to you?" she asked, her voice filled with a sense of urgency.
Jinho struggled to regain his composure, his hand pressed against his throbbing head as he slowly rose to his feet. "This can't be real," he muttered, his voice filled with disbelief. He knelt down, feeling the weight of the situation bearing down on him. "I never asked for any of this. All I wanted was a peaceful vacation, and now I find myself trapped in this nightmare."
The woman's gaze remained fixed on Jinho, her determination unwavering. Ignoring his plea to be left alone, she pressed on. "Where is he?" she demanded, her voice firm and resolute.
"I don't know," Jinho replied, his voice tinged with frustration. "He vanished into thin air, as if he was never here in the first place." The sense of bewilderment and helplessness washed over him once again, leaving him grasping at straws for answers.
The woman handed him a bottle of water, seemingly conjuring it out of thin air. "Here, drink this. I can sense your confusion," she said.
Jinho felt a mix of disbelief and amusement. "Confused? It's more like I feel like I'm losing my mind. Who are you really?" he asked.
"My name is Sining," she replied, her voice carrying a hint of mystery. "I am a spirit protector, one of the benevolent ones."
Jinho couldn't believe what he was hearing. He was filled with disbelief.
"And why are you here? And what about that man?" Jinho demanded an answer, his curiosity getting the better of him.
Sining looked at Jinho with a knowing smile before speaking softly, "We are here because you possess a unique gift, a connection to the spiritual realm that needs guidance. That man, he is a mentor, tasked with helping you understand and harness your abilities. Together, we will embark on a journey to unlock the secrets of your extraordinary powers and fulfill your destiny as a guardian of light."
Jinho looked at Sining, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion. "A guardian of what?"
Sining smiled softly. "A guardian of light," she replied.
Jinho's curiosity grew stronger as he thought about the man who had claimed to be his greatest nightmare. "And what about that man? He said he's my worst nightmare," Jinho said, skepticism evident in his voice.
Sining's smirk widened, her eyes glinting mischievously. "Oh, he's not like me, the friendly one," she said, her tone filled with playful sarcasm.
Jinho couldn't help but laugh, finding irony in the situation. Sining had slammed him against the wall and yet called herself the "friendly one." It seemed like a contradiction he couldn't quite wrap his head around.
Jinho settled into the comfort of the sofa, observing Sining as she busied herself in the kitchen. Filled with confusion and a desire to confirm the reality of the situation, he impulsively began slapping his own face. With each slap, the stinging pain served as a reminder that what was happening at that moment was undeniably real, dispelling any lingering doubts that it might be a dream.
Suddenly, the stranger from earlier materialized in front of Jinho, interrupting his self-slapping. The man looked at Jinho with a mix of amusement and curiosity and couldn't help but comment, "Why are you slapping that handsome face of yours?" Jinho's surprise deepened as he realized that the stranger had somehow appeared out of thin air, adding another layer of mystery to the already perplexing situation.
"Why are you here?" Jinho questioned the stranger, his voice laced with curiosity and a hint of caution.
The stranger's response sent a shiver down Jinho's spine. "That woman in the kitchen was calling my name," he replied, his voice carrying an eerie undertone that added to the unsettling atmosphere.
Sining, turning towards them, greeted the stranger with a knowing smile. "Ah, Mortimer. I can't believe you've given this poor man such a horrific day."
Jinho couldn't help but interject, his voice filled with a mix of fear and frustration. "Both of you have managed to give me nothing but fear and a splitting headache," he exclaimed, feeling overwhelmed by the strange and unsettling events unfolding before him.
Mortimer and Sining carried on with their conversation, seemingly oblivious to Jinho's presence as if he were invisible. Their discussion revolved around topics of humanity and peace, their voices filled with a sense of purpose and determination.
Feeling frustrated and longing for a sense of normalcy, Jinho couldn't help but interject, "I just want a normal life." His words caught the attention of both Mortimer and Sining, causing them to pause their conversation and direct their gaze towards him.
Mortimer, despite his shorter stature compared to Jinho, exuded an air of superiority. He locked eyes with Jinho and spoke with a firm tone, "Having a normal life is not part of your destiny," Mortimer stated, his words carrying a weight of certainty.
Jinho remained silent, realizing that engaging in an argument with Mortimer and Sining would be futile. He could sense that attempting to reason with them would only be a waste of his energy and time.
