chapter 2 - the kingdom

Y/N's POV

After finally finishing my job I slouch down into my chair and give a big exhausting sigh "why was this so exhausting... I swear it gets more tiring every time..." I look at toadette who actually has a look concern which is new "I think it's just the weight of having all those toad rely on you for these letters... besides! Maybe mario had some good news for you?" I notice a hint of uncertainty in her voice but I decide not to mention anything because I know she's trying.

"Yeah hopefully, thank you toadette!" I get up and walk towards the big double door Infront of me and open it and see mario leant against the wall talking to toad (the main one) "ah hello toad and mario I have finished now, what is it you wanted to talk about?" Toad looks at me but he doesn't seem to pleased to see me, honestly he never does, I'm pretty sure toad just hates my guts? He nods leaving us alone as mario faces me.

"I was told to come collect you by peach" my eyes widen in shock but then they relax and I look at him sternly "is this a joke? Because every time this happens I end up going back to my room and not speaking to her." I say with a hint of annoyance in my voice, mario notices this and I'm guessing he's trying to reassure me? "I'm sure she has her reasons to have done that! Besides she seemed excited this time" all you can do is sigh and oblige by walking beside him to peaches room which took longer than expected.

------on the way------

The walk had been silent and I hated it. So I decide to break the silence "hey... mario...? I had a question" you say with a hint of curiosity and this makes mario look at you confused "of course Y/N what is it?" You look forward still and figure out how to word this "it's about bowser... how come I've not heard of his appearance for a quite some time?" This causes mario to stop and stare. You stop also and look back at him "mario?" You say breaking him from whatever trance he was in as he replies "well we managed to convince him not to return for a- 'selected amount of time' and the truth is he could go back to doing what he was doing at any moment"

This causes you to get in deep thought or maybe he could be waiting for the right moment... you look at mario and before you could say anything you arrived at peach's door and suddenly you get wierd feeling... nervous? Fear? Shock? Whatever it is isn't good..

After a while of staring at the door mario clears his throat catching your attention and motion for you to go in. You nod and walk in "uhm- clears throat peach?" You close the door behind you and walk towards her as she turns around she smiles brightly and hugs you but you push her back slightly before she had chance to "what don't want to hug your own sister?" She teased making you slightly mad at how she's taking this.

"I'm sorry? You've ignored me for almost 18 years and your expecting me to just act like nothing happened!" You glare at her and she just laughs and shrugs it off then looking at me "oh come on? You can't be that mad can you? Besides you weren't alone" she said defensively causing me to scoff.
"Okay I'll get straight to the point. I'm gonna let you leave the castle as long as you have someone with you... as much as I don't want to." she looks away but im just excited to finally be able to leave and I smile "thank you!" I say heading to the door and grabbing the handle before she continues "but. I don't want to find out you've left the kingdom got it." She had said this in a more serious tone.

"Yeah yeah whatever" I replied coldly and leaving looking at mario, he just looks at me waiting "I'm guessing you want to go out already?" I nod excitedly and go to my room grabbing some things (a notebook, a pen and a small bag to carry them. Plus whatever else you want)

----time skip to outside----

"Woah..." I say finally having a good look at all of the different toads and what they're doing I also catch your gaze on all the plants feeling them not believing they're real as I jot stuff down in my notebook and I hear soft chuckling coming from mario and I look at him confused "what?" I say "nothing just- never known someone to be so- interested in such things?" He chuckled causing me to blush out of embarrassment.

I walk towards the mushroom forest having seen it an been very curious about it, I don't go in instead I sit down looking at and eventually I start drawing it.

Out of everything in the mushroom Kingdom the forest always caught my attention. I felt drawn by it and had the urge to explore it even if I don't know why. I look at mario "mario do you thin-" he cut me off knowing what I was gonna say "I'm sorry Y/N I can't let you do that now come let's head back" I stand up annoyed and watched him go back to the kingdom, but this only causes me to sneak into the forest and start exploring.

Mario's POV

As I head back I begin speaking to Y/N telling him about all the dangers outside of the kingdom and in the forest not wanting peach to be distressed. Once we reach the gates I turn and realise Y/N is nowhere to be seen...
