"How did I get here?" The question tumbled from my lips before I could stop it. My cheeks grew hot and I wished I could take the words back in exchange for something more polite.
However, Dumbledore only smiled, making his way to my bedside as he explained, "Our gamekeeper was on an errand for me and came across where you lay. He brought you back, and rightfully so. You were in an awful state, my dear."
"Where...is here, sir?" I asked, trying to be more polite.
"Ah," The wizard smiled, "Yes, of course. Welcome to Hogwarts, or rather, the hospital wing of Hogwarts, as it were."
Hogwarts. I was currently sitting in Hogwarts. Never in my wildest dreams did I even think I would step foot inside the front gates. Now here I was sitting inside the castle itself.
"I happened to take a trip up to the mountain myself," Dumbledore continued, "I'm very sorry about your home. Despite the lack of news coverage, these events are becoming more common."
Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes when my home was mentioned. Surely all that was that was left now was a pile of ash and cinders. Dumbledore placed a hand over mine, the kindest gesture I had experienced since my misfortune began.
