Adelaide dropped her bag down on the couch of her apartment after getting home from work.

"Good lord. All that work getting through individual training and I get stuck doing desk work," she grumbled under her breath as she kicked of her heels.

Ever since leaving home to pursue the military, her life seemed like it was on repeat. She had a desk job at a local base, on standby in case she was deployed, and lived in a tiny apartment at the very edge of the Brook City.

Though, however dull her life seemed, she wasn't ungrateful for the opportunities she was given. Stable living, food, nice clothes, a new car. She couldn't really ask for much more.

Adelaide picked up her phone and dialed her mom, hoping to have someone to talk to for a bit.

"Hello?"

"Hey, ma. Just got home from work," Addie spoke as she walked into her bedroom. She tapped the button to put her mother on speakerphone before tossing her phone onto her plush bed.

"You hear anything yet about deployment?"

"Nah, not yet. But I'm still doing my part, even if I'm only a secretary," the ebony haired girl replied, slipping out of her office attire so she could get into something more conventional.

"I know you want to see the world, but you're only twenty. You've got your whole life ahead of you. Who knows what could happen."

"You're right. I'm just impatient. There's so much I wanna do," Addie said, pulling a longsleeve turtleneck over her head before putting on a bright red vest. "I do wanna visit home though. I miss you and dad."

"We miss you, too, sweetheart. When you come back, maybe bring us back something."

"You got it, mama. I think I'm gonna go take a walk. I like going up the mountain that's nearby. It's a nice exercise and the birds are loud up there."

"You do that. I'm gonna get started on dinner. Take care of yourself, darling. We love you."

"Love you, too, ma."

She tapped the button on her phone to hang up on her mother with a smile. She got into some leggings and slipped on her walking shoes before leaving the apartment complex.

It didn't take Addie long to get to the base of the mountain. She tilted her head to look up the slope and she began her trek.

The sun had already began to set in the late fall sky, casting shadows throughout the forest.

She had been through the forest enough to roughly know her way around.

She hummed to herself as she shuffled through the dead leaves, letting the wind guide her. Her mind wandered to better things, dreaming of seeing what the rest of the world had to offer.

Bushes rustled beside her and she turned to see a squirrel dash out of the ruffage. The moment it saw her, it got spooked and scampered up a nearby tree which made her laugh a little.

A bright light caught her attention from in the distance, causing her to perk up in interest. Her feet began to take her in the direction of the light she had seen.

Her curiosity was never easily contained, even as a child. She knew she would be the first to die in a horror movie and she took pride in that.

As her steps sounded softly on the crunchy grass, she felt herself speeding up towards the direction of the light source until she came upon a glowing blue cave.
