Santa Carla. Murder Capital of the world, as most people describe it. The daytime is boring and not very eventful. So why is it so popular?
The Santa Carla Night Life. Once the sun dips below the ocean, the boardwalk becomes busy with people, music, and lights. The smell of food wafts through the air, enticing everyone who passes by to get them something to munch on.
Justin Maxwell, an 18 year old trans man, is walking down the boardwalk, looking around at all the shops that littered the strip mall style buildings that are scattered across the entire boardwalk strip. He got sideways glances from everyone who passed him by, including some whispers and murmurs.
He paid no mind to the words and stares he would receive. He was used to it. That was one of the many reasons he moved to Santa Carla 2 weeks ago. He used to live in a small town named Brunswick back in Georgia. The small town was full to the brim with hillbillies and rednecks. You couldn't walk to the mailbox without seeing a Confederate Flag hanging from someones pole or truth.
Justin pulled out some headphones he usually carried around with him, as well as a portable CD Player. He turned it on, and softly bobbed his head along to People are Strange by The Doors. He walked past couples making out, friends drinking, siblings fighting, and kids running around.
'They really weren't kidding. Once that sun went down, the boardwalk became like one big party.' The young man thought to himself.
"Welcome to the Santa Carla night life." A boy with blonde hair said as he put his head right next to the young mans headphones. This terrified him, as seen by how he jumped and dropped his CD Player. "Oh crap! Um sorry man. Didn't mean to scare ya!"
The red head steadied his breathing before just sighing and picking up his CD Player from the wood below his feet. "It's all good, kid..." He stood up straight and looked at the blonde, curious as to who he was and why he approached him. "Got a name, kid?"
"Ah! Sam. Sam Emerson. You?" His blue eyes shine softly as a smile grew on his soft face.
The redhead just nods his head, checking his player for any cracks or dents. "Justin Maxwell." Was all he spoke out as he plugged his headphones back into the player.
"Well Justin, how about a tour? I can show you my favorite places around the walk." Excitement seemed to be radiating off of Sam's voice. After a closer examination, he had a glint of suspicion inside his eyes, hiding behind the kindness and excitement. This make Justin, equally suspicious of Sam.
After stading at eachother for a couple minutes, Justin shook his head and cleared his mind. "Sure thing. Could use a look around." He put on a fake smile, hanging hsi headphones around his neck, just under his hair so no one can really see the headphones from behind.
Sams eyes lit up and he smiled wide. He takes the red heads hand, leading him down the boardwalk. He took him to the most popular and well known locations. Max's Video Store, The Frog Brothers Comics, The Carnival Rides, and lastly; The Beach itsealf. Sam had grabbed Justin a cotton candy since it was "Free Cotton Candy Wednesday" on the boardwalk.
Justin had a genuine smile on his face, having fun as Sam gave him the grand tour. He leans against the railing on the walk, eating the fluffy sugar that Sam gave him. "Wow. This place seems really fun. No wonder people come here."
"Yup. My brother got himself a girlfriend a year ago when we first moved here. Didn't take him long to make friends. Im sure it sill the same for you. There are plenty of girls along the walk and im sure one or a few of them will be your cup of tea." Sam sat up on the railing, glancing around for something, or perhaps someone? Justin didn't question this, as he was too busy watching people pass him by.
"Yeah... Maybe. Heck, I already made you right? If I can make a friend out of you, then who says I cant make a friend out of anyone else?" Justin smiles up at the stars, already feeling a lot better than he did before he stepped on the boardwalk.
Sam chuckles softly, handing Justin a comic. "What is this?" Justin asks as he takes the comic.
"Don't worry about it. Think of it as the Santa Carla survival guide. You will need it. I gotta find my brother, so see'ya around man." Sam jumps off the walk and disappears into the crowd.
Justin stood there, looking at the Horror comic in his hands, that is clearly about vampires. Justin laughs a bit and shakes his head in disbelief. "Weird kid." He takes the comic with him as he walks off the of boardwalk, heading straight back to his home. He couldn't wait to curl up in a blanket and fall asleep. Not to mention, take off his binder.
He knew deep down, that he was gonna like it here.
