Amara and Jackie were in their room, surrounded by the remnants of unpacked boxes. As they worked through the task, Jackie headed out to fetch another box, only to find herself struggling with its weight. It was in that moment that Alex, passing by and noticing her predicament, stepped in to assist.
"Oh, almost lost you there," Alex grinned, effortlessly holding the box.
"Can't get rid of me that easily," Jackie quipped, playfully reclaiming the box. In that simple exchange, Alex's gaze lingered on her, a look that hinted at something more than mere assistance.
"Ew, get a room," Amara interjected, she playfully gagged, pretending to be repulsed, while Alex chuckled at her reaction and exited the room. Jackie shot Amara a glare.
"What?" Amara asked innocently, shrugging her shoulders.Jackie huffed, a mock glare fixed on Amara. "Seriously? Can't a guy just be helpful without your commentary?"
Amara smirked. "Helpful is one thing, but the starry-eyed looks? That's a whole different level."
Jackie rolled her eyes, her cheeks tinged with a faint blush. "You're reading too much into it. Alex is just being nice."
"Nice with a side of heart eyes," Amara teased, feigning swooning.
Jackie threw a pillow in Amara's direction, who deftly dodged it. "Enough, drama queen. Let's just finish unpacking."
Amara, engrossed in her own unpacking, noticed Jackie's solemn expression as she stared at her phone. Curiosity getting the better of her, Amara stole a glance at the screen. A sinking feeling settled in her stomach when she saw the date – Friday 10, Lucy's birthday.
