At first, they wanted to expel him, but in the end they decided not to. I must admit that I'm glad of it, why you may ask? Well, if teachers' pet stays, I get to rub all over his face my power as the class delegate.

Take that you handso- ugly dumbass.

At least he kept his promise. But it's strange, I told him I only wanted him to talk to Allard but, I was about to go home that same day when our patriotic tutor got close to me, he said that he asked every single guy in our class and absolutely no one wanted to be the delegate, as if they were scared of being the delegate, so he agreed to have me be it.

Did it offend me that Mr Douillard preferred to go boy by boy to try and have them be the class delegate instead of thinking that I previously offered myself as volunteer and ask me to be the delegate? Absolutely.

Can I do something about it? Unfortunately no.

Does it make sense to think that Jean-Pierre threatened our whole class if they tried to take my position as delegate? Totally not.

Did my heart either way flutter at the thought of it?... maybe.

...

January the 8th (4 months after the trial)

Rosé and I have become great friends, at first I thought it'd be hard for her to open up since she seems really shy, but she actually is quite extroverted, but, strangely, only around me, I tell myself that it's because she still has to get used to be around boys and not because of how long she stares at me.

She and I are talking about our math homework as we all wait on the patio for the school bell to ring so we can get to class. I try to pay attention to her, really, but I can't shake the thought that Simone has been acting very weird lately.

So I excuse myself from the conversation and decide to confront my cousin about her behaviour.

I grab my cousins' elbow and whisper "Simone can I talk to you for a second?" she nods, "Sorry Michelle I need to talk to her, it'll only be a minute" she smiles "Of course Vic, take your time", and I take Simone to a corner of the patio.

"So, tell me, what happened?" I cross my arms, I'm not mad at all, just curious and a bit worried, "I don't know what you're talking about, nothing happened" if there's something my cousin is terrible at is lying, she is great at many things, but I can sense her lies from a mile away, even with my eyes closed.

"Come one Simone, don't act dumb, you've been acting all weird since the day of the trial" she looks worried, maybe it's something she doesn't want me to know.

"Has Jean-Pierre talked with you about me at any moment?" she asks, and my heart, for some reason, clenches "No, not at all, why?", she looks disappointed, did she help him about something related to the trail? Maybe something happened between them. But why doesn't she want me to know?

I open my mouth to ask her, but the bell interrupts me, and Simone takes the chance to wave goodbye to me and run to class. I guess I'll have to ask him.

This first semester, Jean-Pierre and I have been acting as expected. Basically, we race each other to be the top of our class, in every-single-subject. It's a bit tiring, but really satisfying when I beat him at something.

I try not think too much about that history class, where the teacher asked a question and we both got the answer wrong, it was a first timer for the both of us, and as the teacher looked at the other students for the answer, Jean-Pierre and I turned to each other and we slowly and very quietly started laughing. I try not to think about his smile, about how I felt a weird flutter in my stomach, about that moment where the teacher told us to be quiet and how we just looked at each other and laughed even more.

Fortunately, we stopped before the teacher could scold us again.

I get to class and I look for him. I quickly find him, it's not hard, after all, our class is tiny and he is not.

Likewise, I get closer to him but when I do, I hear him laughing and my breath hitches. Freaking hell, what's wrong with me?

I try to ignore it and I repeat the same process that I did with Simone earlier.

Once we go to a more quiet corner he adds "What do you want smartass?", I just roll my eyes even if a smile tries to force its way out "Shut it and listen teachers pet" he smiles and lifts one of his brow, as if saying 'there she goes again'. I kind of like this routine that we created.

"I want you to tell me what's going on between you and Simone" his demeanor instantly changes, his broad shoulders get rigid and his sharp jaw clenches "How do you know?", and my heart stops.

Before I can ask further, our French teacher comes in.

Class starts and I notice Jean-Pierre's awkwardness. I want to ask him more, but this is not the time.

"Ok everybody, since I let the 2nd year students do this project in pairs I'll let you do it in pairs too, you'll have to work with the person next to you, this project is for next week so..." he keeps talking, but my mind stopped at the notice of 'you'll have to work with the person next to you', that's great, that's another opportunity to reveal what's going on.

I try not to mind the fact the Jean-Pierre looks frustrated as hell.
