Magic was once considered a gift from God. Earth, Water, Air, Fire, Light, and Dark, are the six types of Magical aptitudes that can be born from each person in this world. Those who wield magic were considered blessed. There are different levels of aptitudes, Exceptional, High, Normal, Low, and None. Aptitudes are passed down from generation to generation. So if a parent has high aptitude, their children will inherit the same. However, as time keeps moving forward, so do the people. Various technological advancements have been developed by the common folks, leading to the discovery of Steam Power. Thus opening an age where steam-powered machines were invented to make the lives of everyone better, or so they thought.
Despite the Spirit Church's influence for hundreds of years, people's belief in the church dwindled over time. Only a minority are left who still worships the Spirit God. In some countries, citizens are not restricted to any religion. If any new religion were to be introduced, they are allowed to worship as they please.
The Bauer Kingdom is one of the most powerful kingdoms across the lands. The geographical structure of the kingdom is like that of a mountain where at the center and highest location is the castle of the Royal Family. Below the the castle are the different Classes of citizens living inside the kingdom
Bauer Kingdom for centuries applies the Aptitude Ranking System where the citizens' Class are based on their Magical aptitude. All of members of the Royal Family have Exceptional aptitude. Those with the High aptitude are the Aristocrats. They are the elites in the kingdom who have high-ranking positions in Politics, Trade, Military, Education, Foreign Affairs, Medicine, etc. Their residences are located just a level below the Royal Family. Normal aptitude is associated with the Upper Class. They can also have positions that are available for the Aristocrats, however are not allowed to be assigned high-positioned roles. The Upper Class citizens serve and follow the Aristocrats. The Middle Class have Low Aptitudes. They are the Merchants, Soldiers, Adventurers, Librarians, Nurses, etc. The final Class and Aptitude are the Lower Class who has No Aptitude. They are located at the bottom of Bauer Kingdom. They are assigned common labor jobs that does not require magic but for minimum wage.
The huge gap between the treatment for each class has been accepted for centuries. However, with the advancement of technology and the discovery of steam-powered machines, the Lower Class citizens have started to become self sufficient. The lower and middle regions of Bauer Kingdom are filled with steam pipes and machines used for day to day tasks. They have developed machines that can preserve food, machines that can carry loads of items without the need of horses, even machines that can print newspapers in no time.
No magic was used to create the machines which fuels the question to the Lower Class: "Why are we following the Royals and Aristocrats when Steam power is far more superior?" At first such questions were only heard as rumors, however the Lower Class citizens have started to become bolder and bolder in their declarations. They want change to happen with the current system.
The Aristocrats continue to pride themselves with their magic. They hone their skills to perfection that when it comes to combat they are all dangerous opponents. The Aristocrats do not see the Lower Class declarations as a threat. They find it funny and continue to remind the Lower Class citizens to "know their place". The Upper Class citizens will always side with the Aristocrats.
The ones affected most of all with the growing tensions are the Middle Class citizens. They are involved with all Classes. The Aristocrats and Upper Class reminds them to stop interacting with the Lower Class and continue their businesses with them while the Lower Class wants them to join forces against the Aristocrats.
With everything happening, it is almost impossible for any of the Classes to get along. However, growing tensions doesn't necessarily mean separation. It could also mean unexpected meetings.
Rae Taylor is a Middle Class citizen who helps her parents, Van and Mel Taylor, run their General Store business.
Claire Francois is an Aristocrat who is the daughter of the Head of Foreign Affairs Dole Francois and wife Melia Francois.
