Chapter 10 - The Show Must Go On

** Claire's POV

"Flirting with other girls in broad daylight, just what is she thinking? That is highly inappropriate in public places."

I cannot believe what I just did just now. I stormed off like a mad woman, right in front of the Royal family. Though I think only Prince Thane saw me, still this is all that Bumpkin's fault.

"I'll give her a stern talking to about indecent acts in public."

I looked all over the Carnival, from the food stalls, to the souvenir shops, even in the lavatories. There were no signs of the Bumpkin anywhere.

"Where on earth could that girl be?"

As I continued my search, I stopped in my tracks. I had a sudden realization. We only just met and yet here I am acting as if I am her guardian. So why am I so frustrated at her? If Father and Mother saw me right now they would be sorely disappointed. I placed a hand on my face and sighed and thought to myself.

"Maybe I should go back- "

"GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!"

Out of nowhere, a loud piercing sound was heard across the Carnival. It was so painful that I dropped on my knees and hands, losing my ability to stand. I was trembling all over. My vision started to blur and I was losing consciousness. After the sound stopped, I lost all my strength on my arms and legs then I fell on the ground. I didn't know how long I was laying there, but I slowly regained control of my body and tried to get up from the ground.

"AAAAAHHH!!"

"EVACUATE THE PREMISES!"

"HELP!!"

As I was regaining my bearings, I heard screams all over the place. I couldn't quite get what was going on. I did not know what that sound was either. As I tried to stand, my legs were still shaking from earlier. I looked around at the commotion and then there I saw them.

"MONSTERS!!"

"RUUNN!!"

I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. Monsters were attacking the people. Several guards were fighting them off. The monsters had glowing purple eyes and were surrounded by purple smoke.

"Why are the monsters emitting purple smoke? This can't be happening..."

I finally regained control of my body and so I decided to start finding an escape route.

"I need to get out of here and find Lene. I am sure the Bumpkin is safe. I really hope so."

I ran towards where the viewing deck was located. As I ran past all the escaping people and trying to avoid the monsters, I was stunned at what I saw in front of me.

"Is that a giant Slime?!"

A giant slime was swatting away the stalls and people that were in its way. Its middle part was glowing purple.

"Tsk it's blocking the path towards the viewing deck. I need to fin- "

"AHH!"

Suddenly, I heard a voice I recognized. I turned towards the voice and saw it all.

"BUMPKIN!"

The Slime had swatted the Bumpkin and she was sent flying... heading towards me!!

"Wait, if she falls with that speed, she's going to get badly injured!"
