LUCY CASTELLAN was destined to be born into a life of tragedy. Her destiny, was not something that could be changed, no matter how hard her mother tried to help her family. All this was prophesied before she was born, so naturally, she was never told. Instead, her parents carried the burden of this truth, her mother spiraling into madness and her father, messenger of the gods, disappearing from her life at a young age. At only a few years old, Lucy's older brother, Luke Castellan, ran away from home, leaving Lucy behind with their mother. But when he returns, he brings her to Camp Half-Blood, a place off the Long Island Sound that would provide sanctuary for kids like them.
Since then, Lucy has spent years at that camp, refusing to return home to her deranged mother and has since resented her father for being the reason her mother went mad. Lucy found solace and comfort in her older brother Luke, bonding with him over their shared distaste for their father. She spent her years at camp with her friends Annabeth and Grover, who arrived at camp with her all those years ago, and trained vigorously for when the opportunity of a quest presented itself to the young girl.
Years ago, Chiron had promised the girls that there would be a quest one day and that a new arrival would be the reason for it to be accepted. So, with every new arrival, the girls took turns watching them, waiting for a sign they were the one that was prophesied. One summer's evening, not unlike any other, a new arrival found his way to camp with the help of Lucy's satyr friend Grover.
And this time, it was Lucy's turn to watch the new arrival. Little did the young girl know, that clumsy freckled blonde boy would change her life forever.
