One thing that I have always told myself is that no matter what Billy and I go through, we are doing it together.

Well, Billy always knows how to make me stick to my word.

24 hours earlier.

Billy had been hanging out with Jesse all week, even though I have expressed my concerns about their friendship its like what I say goes in one of his ears and right out the other. Men.

Jesse is the one friend of Billy's who constantly makes choices that are typically questionable, in my eyes at least. However, Billy and I were a bit low on money so he asked Jesse if there was a way he knew for him to make some money.

Jesse of course had an answer.

Robbery.

When Billy brought up what his plan was for the night I wanted to throttle him on the spot but I knew there was nothing I could do to change his mind because once he got an idea in his head he was going to follow through whether I liked it or not.

So here I was pacing around our house trying and failing to keep myself busy to keep my mind off of Billy. He had left the house about 30 minutes before and I was so worried I felt like I was going to be sick.

Turns out I was right, like always.

30 more minutes passed and Jesse burst through our front door telling me that Billy had been arrested and would be put on trial in the morning.

My heart sank.

If he was found guilty there was no way he would be able to be released on bail, not that I had enough money to even cover the bail.

I was furious with Jesse and slapped at his chest telling him he needed to leave our house immediately considering he was the reason Billy was behind bars in the first place.

12 hours earlier

Billy was found guilty and sentenced to two years in prison.

I was heartbroken.

The boy that I love was going to be away for two whole years and I was not going to get to see him. Tears streamed down my face as I watched them escort him away in handcuffs and I ran back to our home.

2 hours earlier

I lay in our bed with one of Billy's shirts balled up and held tightly to my chest. It was coated in his scent and it was comforting.

As I had a pity party for myself and continued to silently weep into the pillow I heard the front door open and close. Immediately I shot up and grabbed the nearest weapon I could find, one of Billy's pistols.

I walked slowly towards the door to our bedroom but it opened before I could reach it.

There stood Billy, sweating and exhausted.

In an instant I threw the gun onto our bed and ran into his welcoming arms.

"God Billy, I was so worried about you. I told you from the start that I didn't like Jesse's plan."

"I know sweetheart and I'm so sorry to worry you the way that I did."

After soaking in his embrace for a moment longer I backed away, confused.

"Billy. You were sentenced to two years. How are you here with me right now?"

"Well darlin', I broke out."

My eyes widened as I realized the weight of his words.

"We have to run don't we?"

"Yes we do baby."

I nodded my head in understanding and quickly started to pack up necessities to keep us sustained on the trip we were about to embark on.

Present

So here we were riding away from, the town we had spent the last decade in, the place we called home.

Billy lead the way and we stumbled across a river and rode along the shore for a while. Eventually we found what looked to be a makeshift campsite and Billy slowly reached for his holster.

All of the sudden I felt the barrel of a gun to my back and a man clearing his throat.

Billy whipped his head around as the man roared out a question.

"How did you find me!?"

"Sir we don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about."

"Well what are you doing here then"

"Do you want my honest answer?"

The man nodded as if to say well what do you fuckin think?

"I escaped from jail and we're on the run."

There was silence from behind me and all of the sudden the man let out a hearty laugh.

"Well that sounds like the best excuse I've ever heard."

The barrel of the gun was no longer against my back as the man walked over to where Billy was still mounted on his horse.

"What's your name son?"

"William. William H. Bonney"

And that is how Billy McCarty became known as William H. Bonney, the outlaw.
