Water dripped lightly from the ceiling into carefully placed buckets that were scattered around the beat up old house that you shared with your late mother's closest friend, Kathleen Antrim. Kathleen was kind enough to welcome you into her home after your mother passed during childbirth, leaving you behind as an orphan.

Before Kathleen married the dead beat that is Henry Antrim she was married to a kind man with a good heart, named Patrick McCarty who passed after battling a war within himself. Growing up with Kathleen as your second mother figure you grew close with her sons, Joe and Billy. However, Billy was the one you formed more of a close bond with as you two were closer in age.

As you both grew older you became the person each other turned to in the good times and bad. You had not been there when his father passed but after your mother had gone he knew just how to comfort you in the times you needed it most.

The nights where you woke up with cold sweats after being ripped from sleep after a nightmare filled your dreams with the sound of your mother's screams in her final moments clawing through your eardrums.

The sound of the rain falling softly onto the roof of the house was soothing but sleep seemed near impossible after the thoughts of your uprising occupied your mind. Tossing and turning was the only thing you were able to do.

Time passed slowly and just as you were nearing sleep you heard a rustle from the kitchen. As you shot up in bed you glanced over across the room to Billy's bed to see if he had stirred as well from the sudden sound.

He hadn't.

You started thinking that maybe you were just imagining things and maybe it was the lack of sleep you had gotten the past week so you slowly slid back under the covers you had just thrown off. After getting semi comfortable again the sound of footprints were unmistakable as you sat up again, this time standing as quietly as possible.

As fear coursed through your body you made your way over to Billy's side of the room where you know he leaves his guns. You grab one with shaky hands and start walking towards the door where you twist the handle as quietly as you can manage.

On the other side of the door reveals a desperate Henry rummaging through the savings that Kathleen had rightfully earned after spending many hours working for them. As you walk towards him his back is turned towards you and you gain confidence that you knew deep down you didn't actually have and you place the barrel of the gun to the back of his neck.

"Leave, Henry." You state just slightly above a whisper, not wanting to wake the rest of the house. You knew he was only here for money that would allow him to pay for yet another woman to cheat on Kathleen with.

As he felt the unmistakable object against his neck he slowly raised his hands, dropping the money as he did so. However, what you were unaware of was the fact that he was drunk, and a quick drunk at that. In an instant he whipped around and disarmed you, causing the gun that you once had to fly across the room with a loud clatter.

He then ran towards you, tackling you to the ground and placing a hand over your mouth to keep you from crying out. Tears started to well up in your eyes and stream down your face as the confidence you mustered up before had vanished into thin air.

With one hand on your throat the other reached down to the bottom of the nightgown you were dressed in and he slowly started to raise it, running his hand across the skin of your leg. You snapped your eyes shut and gave all the fight you could in an attempt to get the large drunken man off of you, to no avail.

However, you were unaware that during the scrambling around that Billy had awoken and had witnessed Henry tackle you down. Upon seeing this he quickly grabbed his other gun from his holster and burst through the door you had quietly opened before, gun pointed directly at his step-father.

Your eyes were still clamped shut as fear overtook your mind and you were no longer able to hear what was going on around you as the panic had set in.

"Get off of her, now." Billy spoke with venom as he watched the only girl he cared about deeply, other than his mother, struggle helplessly.

The drunk man smiled as he looked up at Billy and made eye contact with him. However, his smile faded quickly when Billy advanced towards him and in a split second held the barrel of the gun against his forehead.

This time Henry was the one who was afraid.

He quickly released you and backed away as he stood in an attempt to get away from the nose of the gun that was still directed in his path. Even after the weight had been physically lifted off of you it was like you were trapped in your own mind and you were unable to move.

Billy noticed this and it only fueled his rage as he then walked towards Henry, gun still aimed, and made him walk backwards out the front door. Henry helplessly pleaded with Billy not to kill him saying how much he already hates himself and wanted to be a better man for Kathleen, lies.

Henry's eyes were now the ones that were closed in fear as he trembled against the gun that Billy still had pointed against him. However, Billy remembered how you laid on the floor and he turned away from Henry and slammed the door to the house shut leaving his step-father outside in the rain.

In an instant Billy was by your side and he lifted you into his arms and carried you back into the room that you shared. Rather than placing you in your bed he sat you down on the edge of his and pulled your body close to him as placed your head in the crook of his neck and he wrapped his arms around your frame. After this he began humming to help soothe you as his mother did for him when he was younger.

As he hummed your panic had started to subside and you slowly began to peel your eyes back open and realize you were no longer in danger. Billy smiled as you drew nearer to him grasping onto him as though he planned on going anywhere.

The tears that had once formed were back and a steady stream began running down your face and onto Billy's chest as you whispered, "Thank you Billy, I was terrified of the things he could have done had you not saved me."

Something in your statement caused Billy to pull you in tighter and one of his hands went to the back of your head, stroking your hair as you started to calm back down. This time Billy was the one to speak, "As long as I am around I will never let anything bad happen to you."

You knew his words were true as he has never shown affection towards any women besides you and Kathleen of course.

After a few more minutes of being in each others embrace Billy started to pull away and get up as if to walk over to your bed. You instinctively grab his hand pulling him back.

"Please, stay with me tonight. I don't know if I will be able to sleep alone". You stated softly as you looked up at Billy. His face softened as he sat back down, allowing you to move over to give him space in the bed. He then scooted in and under the covers next to you opening his arms to invite you in which you gladly accepted.

"I will always stay with you, no matter what". Billy said as you laid your head on his chest and closed your eyes. His words were softly spoken and you knew in your heart that he would always be there for you, no matter what.

With that, you slowly began to drift off, the sound of Billy's soft breathing lulling you to sleep at last.
