— M POV
"I understand that you'll miss your friends but this is the best for us love," my mother comforted Chan-yeol, my little brother, as we dropped a few of our moving boxes into our grubby new apartment. I sighed dismally at the despondent look on Chan-yeol's face. My mom was right. It was the best of both worlds plus I didn't have the liberty to do anything if I wanted to change why we moved away. "Think about it! Us moving here will be the start of a new beginning for our lives."
"Why did we have to move cities?", Chan-yeol whined kicking his feet against the wooden floors. Mom and I looked at each other with uneasiness.
"You know why we had to move cities. Stop acting clueless, okay?" She then disappeared down the hallways leaving me with Chan-yeol who was staring down at his watch locket. He has been attached to it, he has been since he won it at the arcade.
"She's sensitive about it," I murmured, looking at my brother while I stacked a box on top of another. "So please don't ask questions like that." I was ignored.
"Hi, we're new here," Chan-yeol called standing up with a wide smile and looked past me. I curiously turned around to see who he was talking to and saw a boy with his hands in an antiquated hoodie, worn-down jeans, and sneakers, with dark brown hair. He looked tired. Unbelievably tired. Probably so tired he couldn't spare a glance at us and just walked past us like we were just flies roaming around. At least I hope. Who am I kidding? What a welcoming presence.
"That's a bundle of joy," Mom chortled as soon as the boy walked far enough.
"I gave him my best smile too," Chan-yeol complained plopping himself on the ground to play with his locket again.
"Chan, get up. You're nine now, you shouldn't be acting like a baby. Help me and your brother." She grabbed his arm pulling him up and managed to drag out a "fine" from Chan-yeol.
I laughed at the fuss and heard a ding from behind me. Turning again I saw a woman fumbling with her purse searching for something. She then tripped over her shoe and fell to her knees gasping in embarrassment. Quickly, I assisted her and received a warm smile. Now that's welcoming.
"Thank you, son," she said holding onto my arm for support. I then watched her gaze at the boxes outside my front door. "You must be the newcomers! I'm the landlord! I live just right above your apartment."
"That's nice to hear," I reply putting on the same wide smile my brother had on earlier. Mom quickly ran towards us and bowed with a hand over her heart.
"Hello."
"Hello, Mrs. Lee," the landlord greeted. "Are you guys settling in just fine?"
"Yes! This is just amazing for us." I wouldn't say amazing... "I just need to figure out where to put this one in for school."
"Oh really? Are you in high school?" She faced me with a curious gaze looking almost excited.
"Yes, I am ma'am."
"Then he can go to the school my son goes to! I'm pretty sure he walked past here a minute ago," she muttered. I chuckled a little at how Mom's eyes widened before excusing myself to leave so that we could unpack things before dark.
— J POV
I groaned at the stinging pain in my back feeling my body getting thrown against the lockers. My back arched and immediately my hair was harshly pulled to the side. "Fucking hell," I whispered glaring up at Kyong, some motherfucker that wants to fuck my ass so bad. He always did stuff like this after the rumor went out. I'm just the gay kid. Notice how all the guys swarmed around me after hearing the news though? They're just closeted but Kyong was another story. He was the most desperate out of the rest.
