The tears were flowing by the time I made it to my bedroom. I lightly closed the door behind me and immediately called Blaise. Why I did this? Only the good lord knows. I focused on the ringing of my phone and counting each and every breath I took in. Amongst everything else I was feeling embarrassment flared in my chest. He was my only friend, and I'd only just met him, yet here I was calling him just because I felt alone.
I went to hang up but before I could he had already picked up.
"Hi, Pearl." He sounded calm and serene, everything I wasn't at the moment. Making sure my voice wasn't watery I greeted him. Now what do I say? if talking to him when I wasn't in distress was already hard why did I think now it would be easy.
"How's your day been?"
"It's okay." I respond like usual. "Not the best." I say quieter.
"I'm here to listen, I could also give advice too -- if you're okay with that." He sounded actually interested. The void in my chest shrunk the teeniest bit.
"Uh...well its not my problem. Its my friends, okay?" I didn't give him a chance to speak I just kept talking. He probably knew I was bluffing but I don't care. I heard a soft laugh on his end. "So she got in to an argument, or fight? with her mom and she feels bad about it." I summarized. My eyes teared up some more and my throat tightened.
My problem with expressing myself was that I was going to cry every single time. I hated it.
"You don't have to share your friends business, but from your perspective who do you think is in the right?" He prodded. After a few moments of silence I finally admitted.
"I think my friend is in the right." I felt ashamed for siding with my own self and saying it out loud. Maybe I was cocky for this? it just felt wrong and I don't know why I cant just trust myself.
"Is she upset?"
"Yes. She just feels bad about getting into the fight in the first place."
"Alright, my advice to your friend is to start putting more trust in herself. I understand that its hard to be strong and defend yourself when someone is treating you badly but if it's something that she finds important her mother should respect her enough for them to speak about it cordially. And my advice to you is to cheer up, baby."
I let out a noise to signal that I was listening and processing what he was saying. I also didn't forget to blush about the pet name. I muted myself and punched the nearest stuffed animal by me to release all this pent up jitter.
"I'll let her know...and ill cheer up." I told him. I stopped crying while he was talking, finally.
"yeah?"
"Yeah."
The hell is wrong with me.
Wanting to reciprocate the kindness I asked him about his day.
"My days been good. I filmed a new video, I just have to edit it now."
"That's really cool, Blaise!" excitement bubbling. "What type of content do you make?"
"Currently, I've been uploading some vlogs. I also make some about things I'm into like music recommendations and stuff. I kind of just do whatever I feel like and hope people like it too." I could hear the smile in his voice. I was glad that he found a job he was pretty passionate about.
"What'd you do this time?" I asked curiously.
"A vlog, talked about some poetry I've been reading. Also some skateboarding. People been...asking for a workout routine so I added that in there too." He said the last part bashfully. I could basically imagine the blush that would cradle his face. I giggled softly.
"What's funny?" His voice was amused.
"Nothing, just the thought of you been embarrassed about your workout routine." I teased. My smile was beaming. He playfully scoffed in retaliation.
"Be quiet." He joked. It was muffled so I assumed he pressed his face into his pillow. I Laughed some more.
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry I'll stop." I took hold of my remote and went to YouTube. I typed his name with my eyebrows scrunched in concentration.
"What has you distracted?" He inquired.
"You'll see." I felt a wicked smirk slide onto my face. I found a video of him attempting to make a cake for the first time. I fast forwarded to the part where a lot seems to be going on and then I upped the volume on my T.V. to make sure he would be able to hear it.
"Pearl." His voice got lower and it sounded like he was begging. "Turn that off." I Laughed louder than I had been before and he caved in and started laughing with me. Our laughter died down and now it was just the humming of the atmosphere around us that could be heard.
"Blaise, why do you want to be my friend? I mean I know we met super randomly and stuff but you've just been really nice to me." I had been wondering this for a while now. With his fanbase and his looks I doubted he was at a lack for human interaction.
"I like how calm you are, its relaxing. Plus you're really interesting and I like how you're yourself and comfortable talking about your interest. I want to be your friend because you seem genuine."
I smiled stupidly.
