(translation: Temple of the Gods)
Author's note: all the characters are Filipinos even though they can't really speak it. But, I can barely speak Filipino and I am a Filipina
Norman, Don and Nat were walking through the abandoned city streets, searching for another temporary shelter as they kept cover to avoid being seen by the Beasts. Norman signaled his friends to follow him and led them to the nearby forest, which provided cover from the winged Manananggal and the Gods know what else, but left them vulnerable to almost everything else
"What now?" Don asked
"We hide, of course" Norman replied
"Where? We are literally in the middle of a forest" Don scoffed
"There" Norman pointed at a structure in the distance
"Wha- are you crazy!? You know Tiyanak and all sorts of Aswang hang around abandoned places, that's basic knowledge, man" Nat said
"Wait, Nat, that's not a regular abandoned place.. That's... That's a temple..!" Don exclaimed quietly, as to not attract any unwanted attention. Why are they so relieved that its a temple? (I'm making this up now, lmao) temples are usually the home of the gods, so the creature would stay away from the buildings
"Yeah! C'mon, let's go" Norman smiled and ran over "Last one there is a rotten egg!"
"Hey! You got a head start!" Don whisper yelled
"We're in our 20s but they still act like kids" Nat scoffed playfully and followed behind, not knowing that something was watching them... The three boys walked around the ruins of the temple, looking for signs of druggies or drunkards, there were none 🤷
"Hey, guys! I found something" Don called out, pointing at a hidden crawlspace he'd found in the wall. They individually crawled into the room, looked up and saw four stone statues, each were the size of giants
The structures were made from different types of rock
"What. Who are these people" Don asked
"Yo, get over here, I found something" Nat called out from the other side of the room.
"Why are you touching that?" Norman asked
"I dunno. It's in Tagalog though. Wanna read it?" Nat replied
"Ang Paglabas ng mga Diyos? The Release of the Gods? This is a ritual, dude, why?" Norman motioned to the old tablet
"Its fine, its probably not even real" Nat shrugged. After a bit of bickering, Norman eventually folded and went in front of the statues. Norman looked at the inscription and started silently chanting the words. I can't be bothered to make something up so, if you want, you can make your own. Anygayz, enough of me breaking the fourth wall
Norman's whispers got louder until his voice had been at it's normal volume, and, as soon as he delivered the final word, the temple started to tremble and shake violently, the statues' eyes started to glow a blinding white while auras of color erupted from each statue and circled the ceiling
"Not even real, hm?" Norman growled at Nat bitterly. The auras of color descended one by one and morphed into humanoid figures
The Gods of the temple
