On the football field as james played with the other to make it to the team has caught
Coach Clayton's attention, his keen eye recognized James's potential on the football field. Calling him over, he extended an offer to join the team. "Impressive tryout, James. We could use someone with your build and strength. Welcome to the team," Coach Clayton said, acknowledging the promising addition to the football roster.

James, catching his breath after the intense tryout, grinned at Coach Clayton's words.

"Thanks, Coach! Ready to bring some game-changing moves to the field," he replied, a newfound excitement sparking in his eyes.

The football field became a new battleground for James, where he aimed to prove that his transformation wasn't just for show but packed a punch on the field as well.

In his haste to shower and change after securing a spot on the football team, James missed the conclusion of the cheerleading tryout. As he rushed out, he found Cheryl alone in the gym. The timing couldn't have been more peculiar, leaving an air of unexpected tension in the deserted space.

Cheryl, engrossed in her phone, looked up to find James standing there, seemingly unaware of the cheerleading tryout conclusion. She smirked, delivering the news with a hint of sass,

"The cheerleading try-outs are already over, Jimmy Dean. Try again next year, maybe you'll get a spot." The playful banter continued, with Cheryl effortlessly turning the situation into another chapter of their ongoing rivalry.

From Cheryl's perspective, she observed James with a mix of scrutiny and subtle amusement.

"You've gained muscles, good for you, is that because your lifting your father's expectation all this summer?" Cheryl added as she notice how much james looks went from an introverted, suit and tie teen, to a handsome young teenager with a well built structure and more attracrive feature, cheryl noticed james isn't wearing glasses anymore, as she would always call him 'Riverdale's Own Harry Potter, without the magic'

James grinned, firing back,

"Well, Cheryl, summer workouts include more than just lifting expectations. I'm sculpting a masterpiece, not just appeasing dear old dad. Maybe you should join me sometime - your commentary might benefit from a little muscle too." The banter continued as James played along with Cheryl's jabs.

"I didn't know I was on a tight cheerleading schedule, and I'm not exactly gunning for a spot in your cheerleading cult," he added, his tone laced with playful defiance. The banter between James and Cheryl continued, the gym becoming the stage for their verbal sparring.

Cheryl, offended, shot back,

"Excuse me!? not everyone appreciates your sudden transformation. And a 'cheerleading cult'? I was simply acknowledging your efforts, but if you'd rather stay in your little gym bubble, be my guest. No need to be so touchy about it." The banter escalated as Cheryl defended her remark with a hint of wounded pride.

James chuckled,

"Touchy? Nah, just making sure I have enough strength to carry the weight of your expectations too. But hey, if you need a gym pass, I can hook you up. We could all use a bit of muscle and humor in our lives, right?" The banter continued as James kept the playful tone alive.

James smirked, noticing Cheryl's expression.

"Disgusted? Must be a new workout for you. Cardio for the emotions, right?" He couldn't resist adding a playful jab, keeping the banter going in the gym battleground

Cheryl rolled her eyes, retorting, "Save the fitness tips, James. Your charm might work on girls, who's stupid enough to think you're a walking snack on a stick, but it's not impressing anyone here." The exchange continued,

James, with a mischievous grin, replied,

"Well, Cheryl, who needs a cheerleader when I've got a whole fans club? Maybe you'll join someday. Until then, enjoy the front-row view." The banter continued as James playfully teased Cheryl.

In the dimming light of the gym, James Matthews walked away, leaving behind the echoes of their banter. Cheryl Blossom, arms crossed, watched him with a mix of irritation and contemplation. The memories of their childhood flashed before her - the teasing, the rivalry, and now, the unexpected transformation of James.

As James turned a corner, Cheryl couldn't shake off the perplexing feeling that something had changed, that the dynamics between them were shifting. She muttered to herself,

"Delusional jerk, thinking he's got a fans club? Newsflash, James - it's more like a one-man show with an audience of none." Shaking her head with a mix of irratation, yet there was a hint of uncertainty in her tone.

Cheryl, caught between irritation and curiosity, couldn't deny the unspoken connection that lingered beneath the surface. She sighed, wondering if the metamorphosis of James was more than just a physical one, if the layers of rivalry could unravel to reveal something unexpected.

As the gym doors closed, leaving behind a subtle tension in the air, the story of James Matthews and Cheryl Blossom continued - a tale of childhood adversaries navigating the complexities of adolescence and the blurred lines between rivalry and connection in the small town of Riverdale.

Exiting the gym, James spotted Archie in the hallway and slapped him on the back.

"Archie! Coach Clayton just welcomed me to the football team. Looks like we're gonna be teammates this season," he announced with a mix of excitement and camaraderie. The hallway became a backdrop for their shared enthusiasm about the upcoming football season.

"Cool, i told you, it's a good wsy to start your year," suddenly he raised an eyebrow,

"But i thought your dad didn't want you playing sports like that." James cut him off, a hint of bitterness in his tone,

"I'm already a disappointment in his eyes, might as well do something I love. Football's my escape, you know?" The weight of family expectations lingered in the air as James shared a glimpse into the complexities of his relationship with his father.

"So how's your meeting with grundy?" James asked as they start to walk down the hall.

Archie's expression shifted, with a mix of hesitation. "Ms. Grundy? Yeah, we caught up. She's doing well, We talked about the song i wrote," he replied, his words calculated, his eyes couldn't look at him, james noticed this

James, perceptive to the shift in Archie's demeanor, raised an eyebrow.

"Talked about the song you wrote, huh? You seem a bit cagey, Arch. What's really going on? Something on your mind andrews?" He probed, his eyes narrowing slightly as he caught on to the subtle signs of hesitation in Archie's words and gaze.

Archie, attempting to brush off the tension, forced a casual smile.

"It's nothing, man. I'll catch you at practice, alright? Don't worry about it, i forgot my dad needs me at the construction site." he said, masking the complexity with a nonchalant tone as he headed off, leaving James with unanswered questions lingering in the hallway.

James, still mulling over Archie's cryptic response, brushed it off as he made his way to the parking lot. The powerful engine of his 1969 black Chevy roared to life, and he hit the street of riverdale, toward the high gates of their family estate - the Highcreek Mansion.
