Charlie's gaze lifted to meet mine, a visible tremor betraying his fear. "I have something to share," he confessed, his voice quivering with unease.

Perplexed, I inquired, "What's the matter? Why do you appear so shaken?"

Avoiding direct eye contact, Charlie surveyed the room. Though I was perplexed, I couldn't help but wonder what had disturbed him so deeply.

"Never mind, it doesn't matter," he declared abruptly, rising hastily and making a swift exit down the stairs.

The following day, I found myself seated in math class, completely drained, my mind consumed by thoughts of Charlie's impending revelation. Was he in trouble? Or did he require assistance?

Exhausted from lack of sleep, I unknowingly succumbed to fatigue, my head meeting the desk's surface with a thud.

A sudden flashback transported me to a time when boredom had consumed my young mind. "Mom, I'm bored!" I had exclaimed, my words echoing through the house.

In response, my mother's voice had pierced the air, resonating with frustration. "Yes, I'm aware! You've been whining for the past five minutes," she had angrily retorted, punctuating her words by delivering a harsh slap across my face, gesturing me to withdraw to my room.

As I ascended the staircase, I slammed the door behind me, my head throbbing from the impact of her ring-adorned hand. Each blow had felt like torment, the sharp pain radiating through my entire being.

Returning to the present, I found Blaze standing over me, his gaze filled with concern. "Are you alright?" he tenderly inquired, his eyes locked onto mine.

Confused, I responded, "Yes, why do you ask?"

His words took me aback. "You were twitching in your sleep during the examination," he gently revealed.

Determined to escape the suffocating atmosphere, I rose from my seat, resolving to leave. Remaining present would only deepen my despair.

"Max, over here!" Evan's voice beckoned, drawing my attention.

Evan had been the first person I encountered when I entered high school. Within the confines of his home, he displayed a gentle nature, but in the company of his friends, he transformed into a different person entirely. Though his academic performance was impeccable, he often indulged in smoking pot in hidden corners or subjecting others to ridicule alongside Cole.

I approached and took a seat, gratefully accepting a donut from Sean. Cole embarked on a monologue about his dismal existence, a life seemingly bereft of significance. Meanwhile, Luke, being Luke, contributed to the conversation with his peculiar remarks, accompanied by an unexpected fascination with potatoes.

Evan's gaze shifted toward me as he settled beside me. "Where have you been?" he inquired.

"I was in class, but I accidentally dozed off and just woke up," I explained wearily.

"Nice," Evan responded, acknowledging my presence with a casual nod.
