Detective Aichi Vs. The White Shadow Thief

--Start--

“I think we're almost there!” Modoka grinned as she stared at the window at the passing cars and signs.

“Yea, just a few more minutes.” I flashed a smile at her. She beamed. Ryuu glared.

I turned my head away and leaned it against the window, watching the unfamiliar buildings pass by. We were going to Shizuma, a small town about a half an hour away from our city, on an exchange program, were were staying for about a week.

“I wish it was longer,” Nagisa leaned forward, a scowl heavy on on her face, “I am so not looking forward to walking around, even if it is a place I may never set foot in again, like this,” she glared down at her lap as if it personally offended her.

“So you love the skirt?” I asked sarcastically and snickered. She sent me a glare.

“Of course I don't,” she crossed her arms and leaned back, “It feels awkward to walk in.”

“Well if it makes you feel any better, I think you look good,” Ryuu said, sending her a toothy grin, “It's not often you're seen in a skirt.”

She rolled her eyes, “But I'm sure you think Modoka looks better in it,” the boy blushed and quickly looked away.

“Alright you four, we're here.” I heard the amused voice of Arashi call.

“Yes!” Modoka cheered, “Finally!” she opened he door and scrambled out.

“Let's go,” Arashi ushered us into a large school building and instantly into the front office.

“Welcome!” a woman in a suit pretty much skipped into the room and we couldn't help but stare at her overly cheery attitude. Well, at least I couldn't. Most adults I meet are either criminals or overly depressed because someone they were close to died.

“Students from Pierrto High School, right?” she stopped in front of us and didn't wait for a reply, “I'm Mrs. Baru and we welcome you to Shizuma High School! Now, these are the ones you'll be staying with,” she spoke quickly, “there family were one of the original founders of the town so they have a huge, old house.”

That peeked my interest a bit, old houses tend to have mysteries behind them. Well, some. Some are just made up because the house is old and looks spooky. It's fun to come across a cold case.

“I'd like you to meet Takumi and Nova Shouji.” she moved aside and reveled a boy and a girl. The boy had blonde hair and brown eyes and a large, lopsided grin on his face. The girl with equally blonde hair and soft blue eyes had a much softer, calmer smile on her face.

“Hiya!” the boy stepped forward, “I'm Takumi Shouji,” he closed his hand and opened it again, a rose appeared, “resident magician,” he handed the rose to Modoka, “for you.”

Modoka gasped and took the rose, “Oh!”

I couldn't help but chuckle when Ryuu glared at at Takumi, poor, jealous boy. I looked back at Modoka and smirked when she handed the rose back, causing shocked looks on Mrs. Baru's and Takumi's face.

“Sorry,” she apologized with a soft smile, “I like detectives better.”

Ryuu turned his glare back to me and Takumi spluttered, “Detectives aren't that great! Most of them are bumbling idiots that can't catch a simple thief!”

Modoka's hand found their way to her hips, “I wouldn't say that if I were you.” she said warningly.

“And why is that?”
