Chapter 2: Colorado, Here I Come!

Awakening to the sound of birds chirping outside, sun peeking in through the blinds of Lance's room, and the blare of an alarm clock beeping angrily was both one of the best and worst ways to he woken up. Groggily, Lance flopped over to his side, and reached a hand out to fumble around with the alarm clock until he found the button to turn it off, abruptly causing the beeping to stop.

He let out a low groan and rubbed the sleep from his eyes and looked to his blinds. The sun was up, birds were singing, and the sound of cars against the gravel roads that connected all of the country side together was loud, yet perfectly peaceful all the same. Slipping out of bed, and into a fluffy blue robe and blue lion slippers he had brought back home from the castle as a souvenir from his times with the paladins. Man how he missed those days. Lance lazily made his way downstairs and into his kitchen, turning on his coffee pot, grabbing a mug and retreating to the dinner table to scroll aimlessly while he had his morning coffee.

He'd always liked coffee more than tea, or any other drink really, other than Sunny-D of course but I mean, who dosent like Sunny-D? Both him and Pidge would make a pot of coffee for the two of them back in the castle, and would both have it downed and finished by the end of the day, sharing it between them, compaired to a certain mullet haired friend and Shiro, who constantly bragged about their tea and how it was "Superior" to coffee. "Yeah, superior my ass, it's just some water with leaves, it dosen't even taste that good!" Lance thought back to the silly banter-bickering that himself and Keith had about such a trivial question, and it brought a smile to his face. He averted his gaze to the pot of coffee being brewed, the scent of deep, rich and dark coffee beans filling his senses, making him restless.

The warm coffee filled up his mug, and after pouring, he swiftly swiped it away to add a few sugar cubes and creamer to it. Despite drinking coffee for so long, he still couldn't drink it straight black, now that was far to bitter for him, but not for Pidge apparently, seeming she could down mugs of it straight up without even the slightest grimace crossing her face. Man how he missed her, she was like a younger sister to him, and he just, missed her. He took a sip from his mug and scrolled through instagram for some time, looking at all the happy friends and families all together, laughing and having fun, and it brought him back to when he played Monsters & Mana with the other paladins.  Man, to be with them again.

He flicked through the posts, trying to ignore the pit of emptyness that filled his head and his heart, that aching to be with the ones he cared about again. Having to watch them go with a surge of a well-known sadness, it felt like he was losing them forever, becoming consumed with that odd melancholy feeling. He fought the thoughts off and as if almost by magic, he had an idea. He would visit Shiro. Shiro must've known all of the paladins contacts, so maybe, he could get in contact with Pidge and get her to do some smart techy stuff he could never really understand to find out where in space Keith and Hunk were!

Downing the rest of his coffee and quickly rushing to grab his laptop to book a plane ticket to Denver Colorado, where Shiro and his family were currently residing. It would be unexpected but it felt right, like a feeling, an intuition that deep down, something good would come out of this. After becoming world renowned heros, it wasn't like he was short of money in any way. With a single click it was done, a plane ticket from Austin Texas to Denver Colorado for tomorrow.

The floorboards creaked under his footsteps as he rushed up stairs to begin packing a bag. It was October, and it was going to be cold in Colorado, so he threw open his closet, grabbing sweaters, jeans, long sleeved shirts, fluffy wool socks, etc. He knew it was on a whim, and he didn't plan on telling on anyone that he was leaving, he just wanted to get up and away from this god forsaken place, and besides, he was dying to meet both Shiro and Curtis' son and daughter who'd be 3 if he wasn't mistaken when he finally got to meet them.

He was giddy, exilerated at the fact he'd finally get to see Shiro again, and hopefully Pidge, Keith and Hunk again soon. It was only a matter of time. For the rest of the day he spent his hours pacing his house, thinking of the endless possibilities of how this situation could go, he could actually finally see his friends again, he wouldnt be so alone! He dashed up and down the stairs, around his kitchen and living room before residing to the bathroom to take a cold shower to hopefully calm himself down over his trip to Colorado, he had alot to think about after all.

A loud groan eminated from Lance, who was unable to fall asleep due to the sheer amount of restlessness and excitement he was feeling over this entire ordeal, finally being able to see Shiro again! He couldn't stop himself from being thrilled about it all. Finally that loneliness, that deep seated somber feeling he had been having for only god knows how long would finally be sedated, a thirst finally quenched. For the next few hours, bed sheets became ruffled and messy, clothes strewn about his floor, as Lance tossed and turned in bed, restless and unable to close his eyes long enough for sleep to take him under it's grasp before alas, his eyes started to grow heavy, his breathing, steady. His thoughts slowed down to a calming finale, peace, and tranquility as sleep finally overcame him, reining victorious over his consciousness.
