The wind brushed gently against my face as I walked along the cobbled pathways of the park. I look up to the sky searching for something unknown as I feel the tighten of my throat.
I swallow and sit down on a bench near to me, The darkness hiding my expression, the rain disguising my tears as one of their own. I keep my eyes upon the sky again, searching for the unknown.
Perhaps it was hope I was searching for, feeling the contents of my coat pocket as a heavy feeling grew in my stomach.
Before I take my gaze of the sky for the final time a silver craft appears as almost a tiny dot in my vision.
I adjust my glasses but it's still there. It begins to approach the ground rapidly now and my feelings of heavy sadness are quickly replaced by fear as I run out of the way of where the craft is about to strike the earth. The craft hits the land with an almighty thud, smoke pouring out of the craft and my eyes meet hers. She climbs out of the wreckage as I freeze for a moment.
She wasn't exactly human - looking but she was unearthly beautiful, her skin a shade of light teal blue and her hair following suit only a few shades darker, her hair was tied in ponytails seemingly floating at the side of her head and her ears floating in a similar way.Her ears were pointy and elf like.
Despite my shock I quickly rush to help her, moving her gently to sit on a bench. She looked at me and I looked back.
The silence of the night as my heart pounded inside my chest as I looked into her mesmerising starry eyes in wonder and confusion.
"Hi" she says to me softly, tilting her head and smiling in an almost intrigued way "Hi.." I say my breath still shallow as my heart raced a little faster. "Your..." I whisper, she laughs quietly as she continues to look at me "my name is Stella, I'm not from this place" she replies and i let myself process a little and relax despite my confusion.
"Where.. are you from?" I say gently, "S51, though your planet doesn't know we exist do they?" She smiles at me, before she yawns gently.
I look at her injuries from the crash, they weren't bad but she was quite bruised "are you tired..Stella?" I ask, which she nods in response as she seems to notice the red tinge to my eyes, her face almost looks at me in understanding, bringing questions to mind that I leave unanswered to ensure she's okay.
"Have you got... Anywhere you can stay on this planet?" I look at her in worry and she almost seems to realize the situation she's in, tears beginning to form in her eyes.
I put my hand on her shoulder to comfort her and I offer to let her stay at my apartment.
She looks up at me "thank you.." she says before hugging me tightly. I feel my face flush pink, caught of guard, before I return the embrace and we sit for a moment.
After she stops hugging she glances away shyly "sorry I just.... I really appreciate this.." she looks back at me and smiles tiredly, as we get up and begin to make our way out of the park and onto the quiet streets.
It wasnt a busy night and the darkness hid her appearance, allowing me to think rationally again, I knew that taking in an alien was putting my self at risk sure, but it wasn't as if I had much to lose anyway, especially not at this point in my life.
I had been struggling so bad with my mental health and trying to start a freelance business id barely hand any time to make friends not to mention being broke.
I watch Stella as she looks around slowly but anxiously, seemingly thinking of a million different things and my mind wandered also, I wondered if she has any friends and family waiting for her at home, if they knew she was here, how on earth she knew English, how did the gravity of her ears and ponytails floating work? How was she breathing earth oxygen? Did she have a partner waiting for her back home?.. none of that being at all my business or place to ask.
All these questions bubble to the surface walking with her silently along the path, then Stella breaks the silence, interrupting my curious brain "I think they are all proud of me for coming here". She pauses and looks at me "my family I mean, they always wanted me to follow my dreams" she smiles softly and seems to become lost in a memory before speaking once more, "they are the only ones to ever genuinely believe in me".
We walk up the stair of the apartment block and approach my front door "do you have any family?" She says looking at me as I put my key in the door "They don't really like me all that much.. I'm not what they wanted" I say, Stella taking a look of pity on me which I decide to ignore.
I open the door and motion for her to find a place to sit as I begin to make a cup of tea for us both.
My apartment was small, untidy and cramped. Consisting of a sofa bed that I had neglected to turn back into a sofa for over a month now, let alone to re arrange the covers neatly on the bed, a small desk with my computer setup, a kitchen area and in general packets of food and clothes scattered across the floor that I never seemed to find the motivation to clean up.
"You get comfortable okay? I'll make us tea, assuming you can drink things from earth?" She looks at me and giggles "obviously! I'm from a Saturn replica my organs adapt to the planet I'm on! I'm not from M46!" She laughs in such an enchanting way that despite not understanding why that was funny I wanted to laugh with her.
A part of me hated that I cared about her already, I would be a fool to think she would ever remotely like me and an even bigger fool to think that if we ever got together that I wouldn't just hurt her if i let these feelings continue.
I pushed the butterflies into the pit of my stomach, handing her a mug of tea and setting my mug down on the side as I lay down comfortably, now starting to feel how tired I was and before I knew it I had accidentally fallen asleep.
