Seven Reasons Why the World is Terrifying(and Three Reasons to Never Give Up)
I'm scared for our world. I'm completely and utterly fearful. The things that happen even as I type away at my keyboard, would move even someone with a frozen heart to tears and inspire the most self-centered person in the world to help if they realized, and really understood the suffering of the world.
The way we, as citizens of first world nations, sit idly by, becoming fatter, lazier, and stupider while people starve, die, are shot, stabbed, raped, terrifies me.
One.
The way people who have enough time to consider death waste their lives away thinking about it, no, dreading it instead of living life to the fullest terrifies me.
Two.
How some people think that life is so bad that they don't want to live anymore terrifies me.
Three.
The very fact that life ends terrifies me.
Four.
Realizing that my grandchildren will be even more disconnected from the world terrifies me.
Five.
Knowing that human life is slowly but surely killing the planet we live on terrifies me.
Six.
Hatred among our fellow man terrifies me.
And seven.
What are you guilty of? I'm guilty of quite a few of these things.
But we all must know that there is hope for the future.
The same things that can distract us from the real world can connect us.
One.
There are extraordinary people in this world doing amazing things. Think of Malala Yousafzai, for example.
Two.
There's a way for you and me and every other average person to stand up and be extraordinary, even in small ways.
And that's just three important reasons why the world might not be so terrible after all.
There are plenty of others, they just need to be found.
How about you? Will you be a reason to be terrified for our future... or will you give the world a little bit of hope?
