Chapter 6
Poppy
"I look ridiculous," I mutter as I stand in front of Amelia's full-length mirror.
She gives me a look over my shoulder.
"You look like a hot ass bitch!" she cries.
"I'm with her," Corbin nods, putting his head on my shoulder. Corbin is tall and thin with a sharp, angular jaw that digs into my soft shoulder. I wince and give him a look. He chuckles. "Come on. If not now, when will you wear a dress like this?"
"It's not my dress! It's far too tight!" I do a twirl and eye myself in the mirror.
Amelia's roommate is about my height but is smaller than me, especially in the boob-region. I look ridiculous!
It's a pretty dress. Small and red and sparkly. I like it. But it's so not me.
"No more arguments. The car will be here any minute and I need another shot," Corbin says. Amelia grins at me as she finishes snapping her heel on. She looks incredible in her bodycon black dress which fits her lean frame so well.
Don't get me wrong: I love my body. I wouldn't trade it. I like my curves. But when I wear things like this, I feel slightly like a sausage on display.
I sigh and attempt to pull the dress up over my cleavage.
"You look beautiful, Pops," she assures me.
I huff and blow a piece of hair out of my face. It doesn't really matter what I look like. I'm not going to the club to prowl for anyone or anything like that. This is about Corbin. Not me.
"Car's here!" Corbin calls. "Come take your shots!"
Amelia and I step out into her very small kitchen. Corbin passes us each the tequila shot.
"Where's the chaser?" Amelia frowns.
"Woman up. Let's go," Corbin says, clicking our glasses together. We down the shots and it burns the whole freaking way through my stomach.
This should be interesting.
The Vault is packed on a Friday night. I can't help but be pleased for Mario. I'm sure he's proud of all he's done here. The Vault was Marcel's club that Mario inherited. I'm sure that, along with everything else, was a ton of pressure on him. I never asked, of course, since that isn't my place. But I always assumed Mario was probably overwhelmed by it all.
I show the bouncer our three keys to get into the VIP line, which moves quickly. When we get into the club, a hostess leads us through towards the VIP section. I can't help but admire how incredible the place looks at night. I've never been here this late with this many people. I really only ever come here if Mario needs me to pick something up or drop something off.
The hostess sits us at a booth where there's already a bottle of expensive champagne sitting on ice. We each order drinks from her.
"Do you think they have mozzarella sticks here?" I ask, looking around for some sort of food menu.
Corbin and Amelia both laugh at me.
I wasn't joking though.
"Ooh! Maybe we can get Taco Bell after this," I wiggle excitedly.
"Poppy's favorite thing about going out is eating junk food after," Corbin teases.
"Always has been," I flick my hair over my shoulder and smirk at him.
