3. "and my little sister and I will take hands and looking up at our beautiful tree we'll dance and sing..."

~Little Tree by E.E. Cummings

For: A Christmas Verse 2023

~~~~~
I wouldn't know in darkest night, on longest night
The warmth of fire and home and hearth
I wouldn't see the presents bright, the brilliant sights, the pretty light
Under the Holly-tree
Come play in the wild places with me, sister fair, oh fairest child
Come dance upon the leaves of brown 'neath leaves of green and boughs of brown and white
Come gather with me the bright boughs of berries, round, red, wild
Under the Holly-tree
And my little sister and I will take hands in this shadow where winter is clearest, cold, and dark as icy glass
And looking up at our beautiful tree we'll dance and sing a ring-dance round this tree of green, in field of white, in night of black
The starlight shielded in silent shadow, we sing that the winter may pass
Under the Holly-tree
