The next morning they got up and headed to classes like normal. After the bell rang for 4th hour Dawson was in the hallway heading to her locker to get her things for 5th hour. She was running late, but as she was rummaging through her locker looking for her textbook kneeling down when she saw it on the floor of her locker, As she stood back up to close her locker she felt something behind her. She slowly turned around to see what the presence was and half a second later there was the nurse standing in front of her pointing her wand to her neck. Dawson gasped and froze.
"Where is the potion?" The nurse asked very demandingly.
Terrified and also slightly confused, Dawson froze and struggled to breathe, but she knew she had to answer so she gathered enough air to say, "What potion?" Then the nurse slammed her on the lockers, not moving the wand from her throat. "I know you know where it is and nothing, I mean nothing will get in the way of me getting it." she said inching closer to Dawson's face creating an immense amount of intimidation. Confused and terrified, Dawson stood there shaking and debating on whether she wanted to punch her or cry. After a few moments, Griffin came walking down the wall. The nurse saw him walking down the hall and immediately backed away trying not to draw any attention to herself, "I warned you" as she headed down the hallway nodding to Griffin on her way. Griffin ran over to Dawson who was still standing up against the lockers afraid to move. "Dawson, are you okay? Dawson, can you hear me?" Dropping his satchel and holding onto her shoulders to shake her out of her "trance".
She was so stunned she didn't move her eyes or talk, just stood there and said nothing, just trying to process what just happened. A few seconds later, she came to, turned her eyes to Griffins and just hugged him and he hugged her back. He wanted to ask if she was okay, but he didn't and instead just hugged her tighter, not letting go for a while.
Dawson went to class where she saw El and she could tell something was wrong. "Hey are you okay?" El asked.
"Uh, yeah I'm okay, just tired."
Not believing her at all, Elston turned forward toward the front of the class as the teacher was getting started.
After 50 minute Macro lecture, Elston took Dawson's arm and brought her upstairs quickly and when they got into the room El immediately turned around.
"Okay, tell me what happened."
Dawson said she was fine and kind of rubbed off the question.
"Okay, fine." she said putting her hands up like she didn't mean to be offensive while slowly walking in a circle while Dawson sits on her bed. Then she turns to face Dawson. " I'm getting Griffin and Cole over here." and whips open the door knocking it into the wall and runs out of the room before Dawson had the chance to react
A few minutes later, after shutting the door after her, El walks in with the guys. Griffin walked in and immediately gave Dawson a hug not as intense as after the previous event but still sweet and tight enough to where she gasped a little for air, and Cole followed giving her a quick sweet hug.
"What was that about?" El asked.
"Griffin explained what happened to Dawson to me. It sounds terrifying," Cole said as he took a seat at one of their desks.
"Griffin, can you tell me then because Dawson doesn't want to talk about it?'' El asked, kind of pleading. Griffin looked over to Dawson for a look of approval to share what happened, Dawson shyly gave a verbal response "yeah".
Griffin then proceeded to explained the whole thing from how much he saw which was, "The nurse was holding a wand to Dawson's throat and then shoved her against the lockers asking for a potion and threatening she was going to get it not matter what it took and then she let go when she noticed I was there. That's when I ran up to her and she wouldn't move or speak or even blink." After Griffin and the group all had looks of horror in their minds reliving the memory- well El and Cole trying to imagine the event.
Elston stared in disbelief, and then she walked over and gave Dawson a hug and asked if she was alright.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just trying to understand what potions she is talking about. I only really know the one I have to perform at the tasks tonight." She grabbed the back of her neck and pulled on it as if that would help her think. " Is there any you guys know? I'm still new to this whole magic thing" The three looked at each other exchanging glances of slight panic, " We didn't learn potions. That's a class for level sevens and we were all level fives last year" Cole explained after a few more glances were shared between them.
The group talked for a few hours more trying to decode what potion the nurse was talking about and also talking about Dawson's suspicions in the first place. About another hour goes by and then they check the clock.
"Oh shoot, we have to go. We're gonna be late," Dawson said, as they were all scrambling to get up, they quickly grabbed their wands and ran faster than lighting trying to not be late for the tasks.
When they got downstairs and checked in and were still trying to catch their breaths from what felt like a marathon they just ran. They headed to the great hall where Headmaster McKennly and the rest of the student body were waiting to start the tasks.
"Nice of you guys to join us this evening," McKennly said a little sarcastically, as she got prepared to give further instructions for the tasks.
She then proceeded to give a brief reminder of what we were going to do, " remember these are all tasks you should have been practicing. You get one point off for performing slow, 2 points for not having right wand techniqu-...." She probably shouldn't have but Dawson was zoning out, still trying to understand how any of this is real and what happened earlier. Of all the times for her to be thinking of nothing and everything at the same time, this was not it.
As she came to, she heard the finishing line of the Headmasters lecture, " ... as always if you perform any dark magic your memory will be wiped and you will be kicked out and continue going to normal school only". After her speech she started calling on people, first up: Diane Dubre. She had a nice name that fit together and she seemed to have that mean girl vibe coming from her though. She whispered "colligentes ingredients'' to her wand and a few moments later all of the ingredients came filing out of the cabinets (she was already showing off a bit), but when she started she looked like a witch at work she whisked it up in an extremely short amount of time. " Fabulously done Ms Dubre, Ms Villin. You're up next." Dawson was up next and she was a little nervous, but she was ready.
"You got this. Just breathe and remember what we practiced," Elston said, giving her a reassuring look.
She looked at Elston and nodded her head. Then she took a deep breath and stepped toward the cabinet and started raising her wand toward the ingredients. She grabbed all of the ingredients she would need for the potion and started whisking them together and within two swirls of her mixing she realized that she missed a key ingredient in the potion. As she realized that, her eyes widened as the potion started to rise out of the bowl. Luckily, she was quick
slamming her wand toward the bowl saying "tenere" to keep it steady, she reached and got the right ingredient and quickly mixed it in.
"Dawson, although you almost caused an eruption with your potion, you reacted quick enough so you move on," McKennly said.
Dawson and Elston had the biggest sigh of relief. The last couple of kids went. There was Molly Sole, who dropped her potion so wouldn't move onto the next round. Lane Torrio made "the most perfect one yet", as McKennly phrased it, so obviously he moved on. Then there was Andrew Harrison, Bethany Holden, Liam Edwards and they all passed as well.
"Alright students, very impressive work from... some of you. Others not as much. Regardless, the last round of tasks is tomorrow, so be prepared. Dismissed." The students left and headed back to their dorms. The group of four walked up together and dropped each other off, so they could make sure nothing strange happened. First was Griffin and Cole's room. "Goodnight, guys. We'll see you tomorrow," Elston said and the guys walked in the room.
"Goodnight, see you tomorrow. Also, Dawson, don't forget the enchantment¨ Cole said as he was closing the door.
"I know. I know. I got it."
Dawson lifted her wand to the door and drew a big X with a bright blue light, across the door while she said "presidium" so no one could go in their room unwarranted. The girls walked back to their room and Dawson did the same thing to their door. But they still stuck the chair under the door just in case.
"What is with you and that chair?" Elston laughed.
"We could have bodyguards and an enchantment and you'd still put the chair under the door," Dawson laughed with Elston.
"You know what, it makes me feel better for some reason, okay?" she said with a grin on her face.
"Yeah cause if she could get through the enchantment, then the chair will definitely stop her," Elston said in a funny sarcastic way as she turned out her light to go to bed. Dawson laughed and turned out her light, they said goodnight to each other and went to bed.
